The experience I had at this hotel was beyond poor and the staff was extremely unhelpful. We had a reservation for 1 room for 1 night and they could not provide that.
We arrived early at the hotel (11 am) to check in and the room was not ready. This is understandable as the check-in is any time 3:00 pm, however I wanted to make sure we had a room and they were unable to do that for me. I was assured though that check-in could be done any time after 3:00 pm.
We had a late day this day, so we arrived at the hotel at around 12 am. There was a person manning the front desk and we asked to check in. We had the confirmation number in hand and we provided the number to them. The front desk representative stated that they did not have our number in their system. They also claimed that they could not find me by last name either. After sitting for about 15 minutes arguing with them that we just needed 1 room with 2 beds, even going as far to get the manager on the line, they claimed that they did not have our room and they had "given it to someone else". The front desk representative did not do a ID/license check on this person. I had already paid in full for the room, so now according to them I was going to be paying for someone else's room. They then proceeded to call the guest in our room, at 12:30 am now, to which the guest was audibly angry on the phone for getting called that late at night, which did absolutely nothing.
After another 10 minutes of arguing, they offered us a 1 bed room, which is not what we had paid for, so we began asking for a refund. Because we booked through a travel agency, they claimed they could not provide a refund to us. So we resolved to leave, but then between the representative and the manager, they were "magically" able to find us a 2 bed room. Had this been offered to us in the first place, we would not have been less angry. However it had now been 45 minutes of arguing with the front desk.
We took the keys (one of which did not even work), and went to what they gave us. It was on the third floor of the building. The walkway leading up to the room was full of liter. The room was hot, most likely due to the air conditioning not working, and it had a funny smell. At this point we went back downstairs and asked to check out and find another hotel. I asked once again politely if we could get a refund, to which they said once again no. I handed off the key and we went to another hotel.
The next morning when I contacted my travel agency to get a refund, the hotel then claimed that I had not checked out. Our travel agency member and I then had to sit on the phone with them for another hour to figure out why they had not processed my checkout.
In the end I was refunded the price of the room, but I cannot recommend staying at this Red Roof Inn. Their staff was not helpful at all, they apparently hand off your rooms to anyone who can say your name, the upstairs rooms are extremely hot, and they do not have adequate record keeping. I have contacted the corporate office and alerted them to the staff of this particular Red Roof Inn.
TL;DR, Staff was not helpful at all and gave away our fully paid for 1 night reservation. I would not...
Read moreI've spent the last few weeks in several motels in the vicinity of the Albany airport. This was not the joyride you're probably thinking it was.
It did, however, give me a chance to learn something very valuable about the state of motels in that part of Colonie. And the state of those hotels is, "If you need basic accomodations while visiting, go to the Red Roof Inn–Albany Airport." And tell Womik that Mark sent you.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable but never effusive or condescending. The rooms are larger than many of its competition. They are also, to my mind, better arranged, optimizing efficiency and presenting more capability.
Housekeeping provides spot- or full-room cleaning as is necessary or desired. Requests for anything are cheerfully attempted. Where they cannot be provided, that information is given quickly, so that one may attempt another resolution.
The location is what it is, and it is difficult to justify that—where accomodations meant to ease the burden of travel are concerned—it should factor in the rating at all. After all, as long as it's next to a road, then it's in the right place. I would have given it fewer than 5 stars and point out it won't be particularly friendly to local travel for users of public transportation or to those who might like short walks to various shops and restaurants. Again, however, these are not the reasons the motel is there, and I don't believe that those aspects should detract from its rating.
Now, so far, this is little more than a classic review; however, there's more. When compared to the other accommodations in the same class and the same GE, the Red Roof Inn rises head and shoulders above the others.
At the Red Roof Inn's local competition, I encountered filthy accommodations, broken facilities, unrepaired damage, and far too often surly and ill-tempered staff. Each of the other motels either created a situation or failed to correct the situation that made it literally unpleasant to be there at some point, sometimes for my entire stay. Avoid them.
If you need to visit the Albany airport area and require straightforward accommodations, skip the rest and go to the Red Roof Inn, Albany Airport. My direct and recent experience will vouch that it is at the top of the local crop for what you should expect to receive for its...
Read moreThe girl at the front desk has some attitude problems. she clearly doesn't understand the value of a job nor the management or the manager had never told her that customer is a priority and then work. When i arrived the front door is locked and one of the employee who works there was seen chatting at a picnic table in the corner. After 20 minutes the girl comes and said that she is checking rooms which is a lie. she started checking me in which took more than 30 minutes. she was constantly texting and talking over the phone , but not checking me in. When asked she said that she was speaking to the manager about unclean rooms which was not the case. now after 30 minutes she checks me in and the room is in such a condition that nobody even opened the door to clean it. unclean toilet , pet hair , trash everywhere in the room . had to come back and ask for a refund. She just said she went upstairs to check the clean rooms. if she really has checked the rooms she wouldn't have given me a uncleaned rooms. She was just hanging out at the picnic table even after she saw me and the guy informed her that i am waiting. she even said that she couldn't understand my English. she said that she cant read my name . anybody who went to school , if you know the sounds of vowels and consonants you can spell any name. I never asked you to spell the name. Finally went for a refund and the whole process took me more than an hour at this trashy place. While walking out of the office she was still on phone and she was saying that i look weird and crazy. hope she understands how somebody feels when they are discriminated, of course me and her are both of same color. the management has to understand that customer is first and then work. After you finish checking the customer in, do what ever you want, but don't make a customer wait for no reason. This happened in the second...
