Great little spot off the beaten path that's very easy to miss even if you're looking out for it. Find it and you will be treated to a very casual spot with picnic table style seating both indoors and outdoors that overlook the water. Definitely a more locals friendly spot that has a great chilled and laid back vibe in contrast to everything new being opened in montauk that caters to the young affluent socialite (read as: drunk tool). There is a bar area inside that has a few TV's to catch your sports while enjoying one of many spicy cocktails that are delicious and made with house infusions of habanero, jalapeno, or arbol to name a few. But this is not the main attraction...you come for the delicious food that is priced very reasonably for the area. The tacos are deliciously seasoned and given with good sized portions of meat no matter which protein source you go for. The one exception to that might be the fish tacos, that are two per meal instead of the normal 3 tacos for every other meat. I didn't have the fish tacos so they might be amazing, but in general I find them to always be overpriced and unsubstantial satiation wise regardless of establishment. The tamales were amazing as was their signature appetizer of slow simmered chicken served in a jalapeno with cream on top. Check their specials menu for treats like mole sauce items...which is Mexican for spicy, chocolately deliciousness that you can pretty much put on top of anything and be happy with life. The owner is a lovely and warm woman who came and spoke with me and my parents for awhile as we shared a mutual love for food with spice levels that make it look as if we're crying....we are not...it's what satisfaction looks like. I could go on for quite a bit longer, which is saying something about a place I've only been to once but it definitely will be on my list of places to frequent when I'm in the area. Chill place, warm staff, relaxed views, and tasty fresh food made from scratch and with love for a surprisingly fair price. Highly recommended for both locals and visiters who prefer something more down to earth, as opposed to...
Read moreWe came here on our way home from Montauk as it seemed to have a variety of different food options.
The food was okay. It lacked flavor and basic seasoning such as onion and garlic. I will say their Elote was very good and they did make it spicy for us. It was $6 for an entire corn and I thought that was very reasonable. The nachos were $19 and very small. I don't eat that much but even I could finish an entire thing of their nachos. Definitely overpriced.
Vibe - It's by water and they have nice seating outdoor seating
Service - It's a self serve place. We have to go to the bar to order and go to the bar to pick up our food. I noticed other people were getting their food dropped to their table but it seemed like that was because they knew someone who worked there. Considering the price of the food I think the service could have definitely been better.
Overall, the views and ambiance were nice but I would probably try another restaurant if I'm in...
Read moreI can't believe I've never been to the Hideaway. I finally went this past week and wish I'd been going all the times I have been in Montauk. This restaurant has an appropriate name, The Hideaway, because it's really hidden away! Located on West Lake Drive and if you blink, you'll miss it.
I had the tuna tacos, which were fabulous! So moist and fresh and flavorful! My friend had the fish tacos which she said were pretty good and they did look a little boring like they needed something, but my tuna tacos were delightful.
We also each had a corn on the cob, which was local and very fresh and full of flavor. This place is right on the water and the views are great. We went at night and it was awesome. It got really crowded, but there are tables outside and the staff was pretty friendly and fast.
This place also has a full bar,...
