The only reason why they're getting two stars instead of one is because, up until last night, the service has been somewhat reasonable. I ended up there late last night with my significant other after a particularly long day in the hopes of getting a semi-healthy meal, that I was more than willing to wait for, before calling it a night and heading back to my s/o's apartment ten minutes away. After someone eventually noticed we were waiting to be seated; it took the one server 25 minutes to get our drink and appetizer order and, fearing that we wouldn't get our food anytime soon if we didn't rush to order our meals since she was obviously the only person working the entire dinning room, we hurriedly ordered something fairly simple. After another 25 minutes of watching a kitchen full of people sit around and contemplate the mysteries of the universe while our empty glasses stood so close to the edge of the table they were in danger of being knocked over by a passerby, our appetizer was delivered incorrectly as well as cold. When my significant other tried to politely point out that our drinks had been empty for several minutes and there was an issue with our appetizer, we were ignored by not only our server so that she could sit down and chat with her gaggle of obviously stoned male friends who had just walked in the door but also the hostess as well as what we were relatively certain was the manager. We are both relatively reasonable individuals who have worked in environments like this before. So, even after all this we we were willing to wait a little longer. That is, until I watched our burgers sit at the window for ten minutes untouched by everything EXCEPT the shower of snot a cook let fly over all the sitting food.
Deal breaker.
I went to start the car and my s/o left a small tip before going to the front to pay for the two drinks and appetizer only to get stuck in a ten minute debate with the server who insisted that we had to take the food as well as the manager who berated my s/o for not leaving a larger tip. Needless to say; we...
Read moreAs described on Facebook by Kathleen D. Yorke: Really really bad service. Waiting 45 minutes in a restaurant with their AC blowing away, outside temp 32 degrees. Our three year old hungry and bored out of her little mind. We're told they are out of hash browns, have to wait forever for slices of lemon. Our waitress tells us there were "a lot of" orders put in before us (there was a party of about ten and three other tables with two to three patrons, the restaurant had more empty tables than not!) Just a few tables over from us, in the empty section a waitress sweeps the carpet with no regard for the dust that is being stirred up so close to our table. We can't help but notice three other waitresses standing around the server's window (waiting for their orders?), even more confusing, with half a dozen completed orders sitting on the window sill! As if that wasn't enough, patrons who came in a good ten minutes after we were seated had their meals served to them... disgusted, we left. AND it doesn't end there! A waitress follows us out to the parking lot to find out why we left? My too-polite son-in-law explains we couldn't wait any longer with a hungry toddler especially seeing they served patrons who were seated ten minutes after we had been seated. This woman who obviously knows nothing about Customer Service proceeds to argue the point with him insisting our order had only been put in 20 minutes earlier! So, either our waitress held on to our breakfast order for 25 minutes before turning it in to be prepared or Denny's Restaurant on Camp Road in Hamburg, NY thinks having a customer sit in a too cold restaurant for 20 minutes before even beginning his order is good business. I disagree... So sad Chris bought Denny's Gift Cards for several of his friends for Christmas... I don't think that will happen again.
This happened today, 12/28/14 between 1:45 PM...
Read moreFor years we stayed away from this chain restaurant...literally decades. However, since returning to Hamburg NY to retire, we made a stop a couple of years ago at this Denny's....had a very good lunch. We have since stopped there numerous times for lunch and/or brunch since their menu items are pretty much available around-the-ol- clock....a real plus for those wanting breakfast at anytime.
The retiree gets special treatments in the form of a 15% discount, but you must have your AARP card ready to be scanned at checkout...and you usually must request the discount. I find that holding your table check and AARP card in hand at checkout takes care of the process seamlessly.
The food is quite good. We do have our individual favorites yet we can rely on consistent preparation and enjoyment of our meals. As for me, breakfast items are on the top of my favorite list. They prepare the eggs perfectly for my taste...fried and flipped over just enough to cook the egg whites leaving nice warm yolks to flow alongside their absolutely perfect hash browns.
I recently ventured away from my favorite list to try an egg sandwich, The Denny's Grand Slamwich. I will not repeat this item. The sausage had no flavor most likely because it was broken up into very tiny bits. As the times seem to push these days, there was plenty of bacon but the addition of maple syrup or maple flavoring destroyed my enjoyment. Somehow I missed the 'maple' in the menu description. That Grand Slamwich is not an option going forward, but then again, I am sure many folks will love it.
We'll be back. Whether a table, our preference, or a booth, this Denny's is relatively quiet, offers plenty of choices of very decent food. I'll give it a 4 out of 5, a great score for this category...
