TFS Burger Works — Restaurant in Town of Haverstraw

It was refreshing to find this burger joint where fast food chains seem.to be everywhere. Overall I had a pleasant experience at TFS. Although there are a few Cons I hope TFS will look into. I order the TFS burger, it's about $8. For an $8 burger I was expecting a hefty burger with at least a 1/4 lb of beef if not 1/2 lb. It wasn't. I was shocked how small a burger it was. It was the size of a kid's burger, I kid you not. It was gone in two bites! It was delicious, but just too small. Frankly I was disappointed. For $8 you expect a burger that sustains you, tfs burger does not. Typically burgers come with sliced tomatoe onion pickles and lettuce. None of it on their burger, so the burger isn't only small in diameter, it also light in content. The fries was ok, it was not impressive. Very thinly cut and a bit too soft and greasy for my taste. I personally prefer thicker cut, crispy fries. I also tried sweet potatoe fries, which was much better, because it is cut thicker and it was crisp. Beer, I was happy to see they have beer, but boy what a selection. All the beers were either IPAs or Stouts, very aromatic beers. I understand they like to be cool and have "craft" beer, but I had a hard time liking any of the beers, we tried a few. Maybe tfs folks dont know, but burgers go really well with a crisp lager. And it's just good practice to have one familiar beer on tap. None here. Ok, as I said my overall experience was pleasant. The staff were friendly and very helpful. My husband had a gig near West Haverstraw, so I looked at Google Maps to see what was nearby. The Filling Station was the first thing I saw. I remembered the press it received when it opened, but had never tried it. The reviews were good, so I told my husband he would be picking up some food on his way home. The conversation went something like this:

Husband: What did you find?

Me: A burger place.

Husband: You're kidding.

Me: No, you don't understand. I've wanted to try it.

Husband: Come on. I'll just come home.

Me: No, please? They're about $10 each and the reviews are good.

Husband: $10 each?? We can get 2 double cheeseburgers for less than $4 on the app.

Me. I still wanna try it. Let me tell you what I picked out.

Husband: You know, every burger I've gotten lately has been so overcooked.

Me: I can order them medium rare.

Husband: Alright, alright. Go ahead. Order 'em.

40 minutes later, we sat down to eat them. We split the Overhaul (med rare burger, Stilton bleu cheese sauce, double-smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and requested untoasted bun) and the TFS (med rare burger, double-smoked bacon, sauteed onions and mushrooms, added swiss, requested untoasted bun)

When we cut them to split, husband says, "Hey, they really ARE medium rare. That never happens."

He took a bite of the Overhaul. He says, "Wow, this is a great burger." He took a bite of the TFS. "Did you order aged beef or something?"

"I could have, but this is their regular beef."

"Wow. These really are great...

The reason I am contacting is because on Saturday August 20, 2022 I ordered lunch which included a well done burger. When I received the order the burger was not well done. I went to the person working the front and asked if the burger can be redone. I want back to my seat and a few minutes later the worker approached me and said the burger can’t be redone because “that’s not how it works”. I asked what he meant and he said the best they can do is take the burger out of the bun (which it also had toppings on like cheese and ketchup) and put it back on the grill. I said that was not acceptable. I had already taken a bite from it that it’s not sanitary and the worker responded how is that not sanitary. At that point I realized that there was no use arguing. I asked for a manager and was told she wasn’t in. I asked if someone can be called and he said no. This is a disgrace that one of the few places in Haverstraw to have a good burger is being run like this. The result the worker said was the best they can do is refund my entire order and then I repurchase omitting the burger.
