Baldwin Bagel Cafe — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

The ONLY reason to go to this shop is for the convenience of your logistical journey and the somewhat ease of access to parking. Other than that, the food is mediocre (a typical bagel shop to be sure) and the service is, in a word, TERRIBLE! My gripe: we placed an order over the phone, once they finally picked up that is, and over 30 minutes later we went to pick it up. There were 3 people off the order line waiting for their already placed order. I made several attempts to gain the attention of 1 of 3 counter workers to no avail. I settled on the fact that they are all working to fulfill these peoples’s orders. Over 5 minutes later, with the shop empty of other customers, I, the sole solitary customer, just stood in front of the register waiting a LONG while to be approached, but was ignored till finally the guy asked me if I was being served. I replied curtly “no” and then told him of my phone order. Imagine my surprise that my phone order had not yet been submitted to the cook and mind you the order was placed over 30 minutes prior! Seeing my incredulity and consternation plainly visible on my face, he then has the nerve to say “how lucky I was he took the order over the phone in the first place as just 30 minutes ago he was short staffed” and that “he would normally have me come into the store to personally place the order!” Way to go guy! Way to go to make your repeat customer the fall guy for your own incompetence by trying to shame him for your lack organization! There was no apology or acknowledgment for their lack of attentive service to me at all. The guy did bring my order outside to me as I was venting on the phone to my family at the disrespect and poor service I had just received again. Well, Bagel Cafe, you lost my family’s future business to your other competitors which are conveniently located around Baldwin.

Oh, and here’s a free tip…toasting a bread item such as a bagel includes the significant browning of the WHOLE item not just a little browning on the edges! To these people requesting a bagel “well done” is exactly the same as asking for a “very lightly”...

I used to enjoy going here but the accuracy has gotten awful in the last 2 years. My wife is an ovo-lacto-vegetarian and I consistently order the same thing when I go, a whole wheat flat with egg whites, black pepper and sliced tomato. On 3 occasions now, we have found bacon in her sandwich. The last straw was today when I caught it before leaving the store.

I arrived at the store at 9:05 and my food was ready (incorrectly) by 9:16. Instead of immediately replacing the sandwich and making it priority for a customer that was in the store for a prolonged period of time, it took them until 9:42 to get my food to me and get me out the door. Literally 26 minutes to make 2 egg whites. I also had to remind them to please use a different bagel as the original bagel would have had bacon grease on it.

All of this wouldn't have been a big deal if my wife wasn't already in a rush to be at a 10am class. Now my wife is upset, I'm upset, my 2yr old son is upset and the day is ruined because of it.

It's not about the food, it's about how your actions can affect the day of others.

I was given a card with stamps on it for a free sandwich. I ripped it up when I got home. I won't be returning.

I places and order at 10:00 am I knew they were busy, it was a rainy day I get it , I call back now at 11:30 the lady tells me the driver just went out, only couple of minutes more, fine. The driver called me at 11:45 to tell him the address again he could not read the handwriting Ok, we then call back 12:00 pm and the man on the phone tells me the driver just went out, no I’m annoyed I waited over two hours for their food and when I finally get it ,I didn’t think this was such a process beacause it was only three sandwiches. I decided to then go to the store myself because it’s literally 5 minutes away when I get there they placed my order again and forget my ice coffee and my sandwich, and the girl with the short hair and glasses was rude and lazy she should not be working there.
