So Far So Good – Long Island, NY
I visited So Far So Good after hearing a lot of buzz online and from a couple of friends. The name itself is clever and inviting, and the space definitely has that cool, trendy vibe. It’s the kind of place that feels like it’s trying to offer something different—something more modern and stylish than your typical café or brunch spot in the area. And to be fair, it succeeds in a few ways. But overall, for me, it was a mixed experience—hence the 3 stars.
The interior is nice. Clean lines, good lighting, and a kind of laid-back, “Instagram-friendly” atmosphere. There’s greenery, cute tables, and a warm, welcoming layout. It’s a spot that makes you want to sit and stay a while. A lot of people were on laptops or hanging out with friends, and the place definitely gives off a creative, slightly upscale coffee shop feel.
The service was okay. Staff were polite but not very warm or enthusiastic. It felt a little rushed, even though the place wasn’t packed when I came in. I didn’t get much help when I asked for a recommendation, and the whole interaction at the counter felt kind of transactional. Not rude at all—just not the kind of customer experience that makes you feel like coming back right away.
As for the food and drinks, they were good—but not great. I ordered a specialty latte and a sandwich. The drink looked nice and had a decent flavor, but it wasn’t as rich or smooth as I expected based on the price. The sandwich was creative in concept but felt under-seasoned and small for what I paid. Portion sizes across the board seemed on the smaller side, which would be fine if the flavors were outstanding—but they weren’t.
What really stood out was how slow everything came out. I get that places like this try to focus on quality over speed, but even with a relatively quiet crowd, the food took quite a while. It didn’t ruin my experience, but it definitely made me hesitate about coming here if I were short on time.
Prices were on the higher end for what you get. I understand this is more of an artisanal or boutique-type spot, but when the portion sizes and flavor don’t match the price tag, it’s hard to fully justify it.
So overall? So Far So Good is… okay. It’s not bad by any means. The space is lovely, the vibe is nice, and the food/drinks are acceptable. But nothing blew me away. With a bit more attention to service, consistency in food quality, and maybe some adjustments in pricing or portion sizes, it could easily become a favorite spot. For now, it lives up to its name—so far, so good—but not great.
Would I return? Maybe, if I’m in the area and craving a chill space to sit for a while. But I wouldn’t go out of...
Read moreBased on a recommendation by a neighbor we ordered takeout yesterday from SFSG. We were very disappointed. Parking at the restaurant was at a premium, which is normal for Lynbrook, and created a long walk from the car to the restaurant. The staff that serviced us at the restaurant was very nice and pleasant - the only bright spot we found at SFSG. I placed our order online using their website; in retrospect I should have called them, because the order was not to our satisfaction or expectation. The first item was sliced chicken with broccoli; which should have been called broccoli with sliced chicken, as there was very little chicken, and it was sliced so thinly that it was practically shredded. This item was not worth $15.95; almost double other chinese takeout in the area. The second item I ordered was sliced shrimp with snow peas and straw mushrooms in a white sauce. I selected no mushrooms on the order. I received about 4 - 6 ounces of baby shrimp (that was not very well cleaned) in a white sauce. I received no mushrooms as ordered, but they also left out the snow peas, so the item was basically a bust. The cost for this was $19.95, double the cost of other takeout restaurants and it was flavorless. The third item was pork fried rice. It was "okay" and at normal market price at $7.75. I've ordered 1 Hot Mustard and received one sriracha sauce instead. Ordered 1 small fried noodles and 2 duck sauce - I received five duck sauces and three fried noodle packages. I also received a container of something that looked like deep fried angel hair pasta that was a hard mess and tasteless. I have no idea what this was and did not intentionally order it. The receipt I received was written in chinese, so I cannot read it, and it included 2 items for $2.50 and $1.50; I have no idea what these were. And they charged a $1.00 "convenience fee" for ordering from them. It was NOT convenient. The total bill was $54.39. This was outrageous for what we received. Needless to say, we will never order again from So Far So Good. For us it is Too Far (the walk from the car) So BAD! Many other Chinese restaurant choices out there - don't waste...
Read moreAte here less than 2 hours ago. Very disappointing for the prices charged. We ordered the whole Peking Duck hoping for Roast Duck based on picture on the menu, however it was over fried, too crispy, and tasteless. Duck should never be fried. The presentation was awful. The shrimp fried rice was okay. The place has a dreadful, very dated red carpeting throughout the place; not sanitary looking. What bothered us the most was how rude our 4’5” Filipino/Chinese waitress was. When my boyfriend was in the restroom, I asked her if there was a credit card fee. Due to her accent, I didn’t understand what she said. So, when we went up to pay, my boyfriend asked her the same question. She said angrily, “I already answered the question!? Why you ask again?!” She waved her hands rapidly. I was almost tempted to remove her tip from the table, but the gentleman before her was very nice. We weren’t sure if they split the tips or not. We did not want to do that to him. If it wasn’t for her EXTREME rudeness, I would never have placed this review. This place was recommended to us by a friend, and we’ve lived in the neighborhood for over a decade, passed this place many times, but never tried it until tonight; will not be going back. Weirdly the place was...
