The Orient Restaurant, located on Hicksville Road in Bethpage, NY 11714, is a Chinese restaurant that I will not order from again. I have been in the Hotel and Restaurant industry for over 40 years, from the service desk to an upper management position, and knows much about food and the hospitality business. I previously ordered from this restaurant a couple of weeks ago, for the first time, and the food was great: the shrimp fried rice was smoky and loose, the shrimp rolls were crispy, and the Szechuan chicken was more of a mild fusion dish, not spicy as indicated on the printed menu. This is a pricey restaurant, and one expects the food to be above the level in taste and well-cooked when compared to the less pricey Chinese restaurant around the block. This was not my experience today, 08/20/2025, a total disappointment when I placed an order for a shrimp fried rice, shrimp rolls, and half of a crispy fried chicken. The fried rice was soggy, a clump of over-boiled rice with overcooked shrimps; the fried chicken was not crispy but sliced, and the shrimp rolls were underdone and soggy with oil. I phoned the restaurant and asked to speak with a manager, and I was promptly disconnected. On my second try, calling, I was rudely told that there was no manager and should try calling tomorrow, and she (the person who answered my call) does not have the time to hear my complaint because they are very busy. Wow, what incompetent service and a don’t-care attitude for a customer. If you like your dishes over-priced, and tasty one time, tasteless and underdone on your next order, and don’t care to complain, then this place is for you. I am not recommending this restaurant to anyone who cares about quality food and good...
Read moreMy brother and I went to The Orient Bethpage for the first time for either of us this past Saturday for Dim Sum push cart lunch. We were not expecting much because he and I have had Dim Sum many times in all three Chinatowns in NYC; Manhatten, Elmhurst and Flushing. We were actually quite impressed with the way the place is run, the quality of the push cart Dim Sum dishes and it was not overpriced. (11/30/19) The Pork & Shrimp Sho Mei, the shrimp Har Gow and the deep fried shrimp balls were our 3 favs but most everything we tried was excellent with the one exception, neither one of us was impressed with the small dish of chopped spare rib. All dishes were steaming hot and tasted very fresh, that is not always the case with push cart dim sum. Cost was only $25 per head and we ate a lot of dim sum. We had no drinks or soda, hot tea only. Considering we have not found a decent Dim Sum place in Western Suffolk no less where we live in Eastern Suffolk, I can confidently add we will return many times to Orient Bethpage. So much closer to us than our favorite dim sum place in Flushing queens and so much easier to not have to struggle with the parking, long walks or the lines on a weekend late morning. Obviously easy convenient parking lot in front of Orient House with no wait the one time we went and the restaurant was busy but no waiting for anyone that day that we noticed, and those two things are huge. A must try as far as my brother and I...
Read moreI loved this restaurant a number of years ago, haven't been here in a while seeing how I live in Oceanside. We recently purchased a business about 1.5 miles away and I was excited to take my Chinese wife here. Atmosphere is classic and the staff was very nice. We had three Dim Sum dishes, then ordered our food. We were surprised how quick the entrees came to the table. We ordered a fish dish, a steak dish, and a vegetable dish. All three were slightly warmer than room temperature. Both my wife and I love our food Hot. It truly made no sense how this food could not be scalding hot, considering food that is delivered to my house from a Chinese restaurant is much hotter than this food that was made 60 feet from where I was sitting. Part of the reason was the plate it was served on was ICE cold. Anyway my wife and I did enjoy the food and the dim sum. I wanted to expressed my concerns to management, so I could keep coming back. I'm explaining what happened AFTER I paid my bill to a young lady behind the counter. As I am explaining it to her, the owner/manager walks past me, pushing me aside as he walks past me saying out loud yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway we won't be back. Like I said we are new to the area and my Chinese wife and I will find a different Asian restaurant to frequent. We will scratch this hasbeen place off of...
