This place used to be good, but these days it's awful! Not only are the bagels mediocre, the baked goods are terrible. Yes, they're enormous in size but all too often are stale to the point of being inedible. (I ordered a cheese danish last weekend and upon biting into it discovered the cheese was moldy!! UGHH!!!!) Plus the service is horrible -- there's always a long line because they're understaffed and most of the kids they have working there have no idea what they're doing. Plus they placed a fraudulent charge on my credit card last fall. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
OK, Mr. (Ms.?) owner, since you decided to reply and slander me, I'm going to reply right back. First of all, the fact that you needed to attack me personally proves just how badly your business is mismanaged. Secondly, all the one-star reviews here can't be wrong. Are we all going to some other bagel place where we have "VIP" status?? You sound like some kind of deranged conspiracy nut.
Secondly, to answer the lies in your reply:
I ate the cheese danish (at least until I came upon the moldy bit) a few minutes after leaving your establishment, so it had to do with YOUR storage/food prep. Don't blame it on your customers: that only proves what a defensive jackass you are.
Your business DID fraudently charge my credit card, and I will be happy to post proof of it here if you want to pick a fight with me. My credit card company investigated, and found that it was fraud (a second charge of over $ 50 was added to the charge I made), and subsequently refunded me the money that YOUR business tried to steal from me (the only time this has ever happened to me, by the way). Despite that, I continued to give you my business. Fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice, shame on you!
Your serving staff are mostly new; I know this, because until last week (when I discovered the mold in my cheese danish), I continued to foolishly continue to come to your store. You can be certain that will never happen again, and I hope that those reading this review will benefit from my bad experience. And, unfortunately, many of your new employees don't know their jobs even though they seem to be nice people. That's the reason for the perpetual long lines in recent months -- NOT because your food is any good. And if "these kids" have been with you for "many years," my question is: did you hire them when they were eleven? Most of "these kids" appear to be teenagers.
Last but not least, your accusation that "people like me hide behind these bs reviews" is, well, bs. If you had taken a minute to scroll down and read my other Google reviews, you'd see they are all five-star, for reputable businesses that deserve to have customers. Unlike your business, I might add.

I was trying to have a wonderful breakfast with my husband and he happens to love a Jewish breakfast with herring in white sauce and he enjoyed it very much. We were surprised of the selection of sweets and savory choices they had. As we were waiting on line to order we had to stop ourselves for wanting to sample everything. I ordered 2 very soft scrambled eggs w/ cheese home fries and sausage. They served me a 2 liquid egg omelette with cheese and you could see the brown over cooked liquid eggs not fresh eggs but Liquid eggs burnt and greasy diced potatoes and flat sausage patties that you can buy from the dollar store, I substituted a bialy instead a bagel. They charged me 8.99 + tax and I also purchased a medium coffee for 2.49 + tax. So with the simple math , and a total of 12.47 including tax. I returned the food to one of the staff members and i only kept the coffe e and the bialy w/ butter which they charge 2.25 + tax i should have gotten a refund for 7.64. they sent over a woman who introduced herself as the manager. The women in the photo above said I could only get 4.00 back. I questioned how she came up with that math and tried to explain why I should have gotten a refund for 7.64 and I was willing to exchange for some of their pastries. She wouldn't listen to reason and then told me to leave with nothing because I was supposedly giving her a hard time. Never did I once raise my voice or be hostel in any way. I would like if anyone recognizes this woman to please post her name. Also, she stole my money. I will be reporting this establishment because of her to the Better Business Bureau. Read moreI see a lot of negative reviews on here based on customer treatment. I’ve been going here for 15 years and the customer service is hit or miss (depending on who is helping you.. I’ve had great experiences and not so great ones. Today was not the best, but I understand that they are VERY VERY busy and trying to keep up with volume, especially in a pandemic where politics has some how bled into a public health situation and everyone is divided on how this should be handled. This unfortunately gives these people two or three different kinds of customers to deal with. I ordered through their relatively new app, which is pretty good, but needs a little work. It was a bit disappointing to have half my order wrong after calling to confirm what I ordered (as I was instructed to do by the person who answered the phone). This was necessary because their app doesn’t allow you to make much customization or write notes in, like in Door dash, (really hope they fix that). Also the app is missing most bakery items and muffins, which is a shame because their bakery items are AWESOME. I won’t say I will never go here again, like some of these other reviews because that would be a bold faced lie. Their food is INCREDIBLE. Best bagels I’ve ever had!! And I’ve lived in NY my entire life. I would even dare say, better than the original Slim’s in Bayside which was always THE bagel for me, until I discovered this place (so so so good) All of their other food is very high quality and I don’t mind paying a little extra for it, as it is sooo much better than the chain joint across the street (BB) . That being said the attitude of some of the counter people could be a bit better (more caring, less frustrated and more considerate). Being a chef and having worked in the restaurant business, I understand the importance of the customer experience, but I also understand what servicing 1,000 people daily does to your ability to keep a smile on your face, so there is that.
