Farrells, West islip 03/13/24
Found myself meeting someone at Farrells, in West Islip, this evening..
They called and canceled while I was waiting for them to show up, so I ate alone 🤷♂️
I ordered the burger my usual medium rare, with cheddar, the bun toasted, and fries extra crispy..
Holy Moly, was I surprised about how good this burger is.
My surprise came from me never hearing from anyone that Farrells had a good burger!!! I think Gerry Ryan let me down on this one.🤣😎 And, I asked for an Old Fashioned, and was told " "they dont make them"😎Irish bar, so I'll cut them some slack🍀☘ Fair enough, I had a Harp, which I thoroughly enjoyed, cold, crisp, and fresh
The burger came to me a near perfect medium rare. Kudos to the Chef!
The taste of the meat hit all my tastebud cylinders.
Salty, earthy, unctuous tastes, were all there.
I'm not sure what Brand Angus they use, but it's a definite winner, in my mind.
You could tell they "hand press" this hamburger, in house; just from seeing, and tasting the loose structure of the meat as it sat in the bun.
Not Top 5, but definitely a "Top 10" on my Burger scale👍 Excellent burger.
Good price, as well, $15.25, with fries
I think they need a new pretzel bun, but that's just one man's opinion. It wasnt bad, but...
The hand cut fries were also really good...Very crispy on the outside, pillowy soft, and a prominent potatoy taste, on the inside.
The service was excellent, with the busy bartenders being very efficient with their movements.
Most of the tables were filled, and more than half the bar stools were filled, when I was there at 6pm, and service did not falter.
Parking was relatively easy this evening at 6pm ish, as there is a parking lot behind it, and there is street parking..I have passed there when the lot was filled to capacity, and most of the close street parking was taken, and have had to park a distance away.
As I was paying the bill, and complimenting the burger to the bartender, she shared that Burgers are 1/2 off on Mondays and Thursdays😎
They also have a lot of Happy Hour Food specials, that are on their website, like 1/2 price wings one day, $4 Taco Tuesdays, and other things I didnt pay attention to, but noted, for future reference 😎

Read moreFirst time here I came for the 1/2 price wings, they were ok nothing special small order included 10 came with Bleu cheese and a tiny bit of celery for $8.75 ok at that price would never order them again at $17.50 regularly. I ordered a Reuben for dinner $19.99 included fries , coleslaw and pickle chips. The bartender asked if fries were ok I asked if I could have a baked potato instead he said ok, never indicating an up charge of $2.50 and nowhere on the menu did it indicate an up charge. The odd thing is a potato by itself is $4.99 and an order of fries is $8.99 but I did not ask for a refund. Such a small thing leaves a bad taste in people’s mind not so much because of the money but not informing your customers . The Reuben was ok nothing special. What I liked most was the atmosphere and the feel of the bar it was like going back 20 years in time. The service was subpar at best one bartender was slightly friendly after being asked by a girl that worked there if he would finally help me, the other bartender was put out by my every request. I was not offered one refill...
Read moreThe drinks were horrible; all bottled mixers and very little alcohol. I ordered Bulleit bourbon sour, and didn't taste any Bulleit at all. There were fruit flies buzzing around our table, which leads me to believe that the beer and soda lines need a good cleaning. It was so loud in there, between the usual banter during football games, which is expected, and the music (which I truly enjoy, but at a more reasonable level of volume), that the waitress couldn't hear us. Rather than her lowering the music, she would simply cut us off and walk away before we even finished completing our sentences. The chicken pot pie topping was overcooked, the filling was good but flavorless, and there was no crust around the inner perimeter of the baking dish; more a casserole than a pot pie. The two ladies with us were less than enthused with their dishes, too. My buddy had the burger, and seemed to be satisfied. I should have gone with the burger, maybe wings, or fish and chips....
