05/01/16: Staying a few nights from Portland, Oregon to check out Long Island and Shelter Island. My wife was under the weather, so it was just for me.
First, this place has been a local favorite for well over 60 years. Their menu says "50 years" but "...we're talking Italian years here" as one of the owners put it.
I ordered the Chicken Mona Lisa w/Penne Pasta and mozzarella sticks. I got all that with garlic bread, a small bread loaf, and on top of that, the owner wanted me to try their cheese pizza at no extra charge. I had observed how the owners treated their customers (one being she's been going there for 30+ years) and how they prepped the food.
By the time I left, I felt I was treated like a long time resident that frequented this locale; as if they've known me for years. Took the food back to the hotel which was about 15-20 minutes out. The food was AMAZING! And by the way, that cheese pizza, that was a slice leaving me wanting another.
Often when I eat out, I'll ask myself a simple question, "Would I eat here again?" My answer would be resounding "YES!"
If you're ever in the area, definitely try Tony's at least once and decide...
Read moreReally yummy food! I can recommend their regular pizza (I always ask for extra sauce)personal sized pie, their vodka sauce is made w ground meat, it's more like a vodka bolognese but it's really good. Pay the upcharge for the cavatelli pasta which is obviously made in their kitchen. Their calzones are honest to goodness the best I've ever had! The ricotta cheese is heaven. Good mozz to ricotta ratio. I always ask for extra sauce. Nice guys behind the counter. There is an upcharge for using a debit card so pay cash. No frills on the pizza place side. They do have a dining room but it's been closed since Covid. I highly recommend Tony's Pizza.
Edit: dining room is now open. Grandma pie is excellent! Long time...
Read moreMy daughter and I used to be regulars in this pizzeria. They offer a dish I have found nowhere else I've ever eaten. So I just so happen to look them up on here. All the food is great but the Chicken mona Lisa steals the show. My hours used to be crazy but the family would allow my daughter and I to dine while they were cleaning up and technically closed for the day. My daughter is now 24 and has a son of her own but we still reminisce about the good times in this establishment. The family atmosphere was as 2nd to none. To any of the family or staff that remember us we thank you for all the great food and the hospitality you have provided us a wonderful memory. Next time I'm in LI I'll be...
