Amazing Food! That's all that I need to say, but... I wish this place was on the Poughkeepsie side of the river where I live, but honestly it's totally worth the trip and dealing with the bridge because everything we had was so delicious and prepared with such care and love. We had never had Filipino food, so we decided to meet a friend and sample a little of everything - crispy fried pork belly, sizzling fish (our favorite), the pansit (noodle) dish was perfect for my gluten-free wife, and the pork lumpia (spring rolls) - all fantastic! We highly recommend you order garlic rice for everyone - it's a great base for the pork and fish dishes! If you only try one thing, get the Bangus (milkfish) Sisig - it's creamy and made into a warm 'salad' and served right in the fish skin - very unique and fabulous on the garlic rice! Don't forget to sample some Filipino 'soda' - the lime is really nice, and unlike American soda, isn't overly carbonated, so it's more like a lime-ade in a can. Make the trip to Highland! You won't be disappointed to try Filipino food - authentically made by Cecilia and her cook with love...
Read moreMy friend and I love to hike, work up an appetite, and then explore new restaurants and FEAST! Two weeks ago we walked around Franny Reese State Park and then went into the hamlet of Highland to try this bistro I had heard good things about. We were immediately delighted by the atmosphere of this restaurant. Our friendly and knowledgeable server Claudine made us feel welcome and answered any questions we had about the menu. We ended up splitting the vegetable lumpia with sweet chili sauce as an appetizer and then the pork sisig and bok choy & eggplant in a garlic sesame sauce with rice as our entrees. Everything was OUTSTANDING! We were lucky enough to be dining there as the owner came in with fresh rolls she had made using purple yams! We were offered one each and graciously accepted. They were a beautiful purple color, slightly sweet, and, just like everything else we enjoyed that day, delicious! We left with our hearts and bellies full AND a takeout box each with plenty of leftovers. We cannot wait to go back again and enjoy more...
Read moreThis was my first time eating at a Philippine restaurant and everything was great. Hapag Bistro is a cute little restaurant, with great service. We were greeted warmly by the staff and seated quickly upon our arrival. Our party of four shared a Lumpia appetizer (7 pieces). They were light and delicious. For our main dishes we ordered Pork Sisig, Lechon Kawali, Longsilog, and Dinugu-an to share. We also got 2 extra sides of rice but I have to say the garlic rice that came with the Longsilog was definitely my favorite. The portions were large enough for all of us to try a healthy portion of each dish and the ingredients were all fresh. For dessert we had Turon with Jackfruit and ice cream. You definitely have to try the mango juice. It’s a super delicious canned nectar. We also tried Calamansi juice, it tastes citrusy and goes well with the dishes we had. Five stars all around. Great food. Great vibes. Above average service....
