My husband and I were heading home from camping and wanted some breakfast before we hit the road. We found The Roost on our way out and decided to stop in. It was bustling with diners and when we walked in, we didn't see a table available so we waited by the door. No one said anything to us, so we took two stools at the bar.
The waitresses were extremely busy, but we were greeted and they took our drink order. I admire the hustle by both waitresses and we were able to see how calm and collected the kitchen staff were churning out beautiful food.
I order the chicken and waffle and my husband ordered the corned beef hash and eggs.
It came out pretty quickly. The chicken and waffle had two big chicken tenders and one huge Belgian style waffle. The waffle was crispy and sweet, the chicken was well seasoned and tasty, but a tad dry. But the star of the show was the maple syrup! It was the best syrup I've ever had, and I'm not even a fan of maple syrup. I could have drank it.
My husband enjoyed his order, but the potatoes could have used a big more of a crisp. The corned beef was in slices, not chopped up which he said he normally wouldn't have liked, but because it was so tender and flavorful, he was okay with it.
Overall, it was a lovely place to stop. Major kudos to the staff for how well they managed a busy Monday.
And! I didn't catch her name, but the waitress with Strega Nona on her arm- "The one thing you must never do, is touch the pasta pot. It is very valuable and I don't let...
Read moreHoly moly. What have I been eating all my life? I had the fried chicken here and it was amazing -- turned my life around. There will be no other fried chicken that comes close to this delicious masterpiece. Roost Chicken Fried Chicken-topped w/sausage gravy, w/home fries and greens... I thought the home fries would be just regular tasting but the sausage gravy moved around like a salsa dancer in my mouth. I wish that I could have even more sausage gravy but it definitely was enough for the portion!!! DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO DRINK IT. The "greens" was also so fresh and I haven't had much salad that had a crunch to it. If all salads were like this I think I would eat more.
The waitress we had was also very friendly and even offered to take our party's picture, knowing that we were "tourists" hah! The big camera probably didn't fool them. She was giving us tips from the locals on what to see and where to go. Beautiful lady with a beautiful soul!
I could not believe they also sold stumptown coffee, which being from the good old nyc -- I APPRECIATED A LOT. The coffee really topped the sundae of a breakfast at this place. Please please please visit here. I wish I...
Read moreOne word: Wonderful. We spent the last three days in the Stone Ridge area, and are struggling with separation anxiety with not being able to eat here again. On Tuesday we had lunch there around 1:30, but couldn’t resist the breakfast menu; Grit Cake Platter and the Sunshine Salad. Unique combinations and flavors, cooked perfectly, with a very nice and sweet lady server. We just had to go back again the next day; same great server on the sun splashed screened in porch. Breakfast menu called us again - cinnamon apple pancakes and the Avacado Skillet, both with bacon sides. Again unique and perfectly prepared. Thursday was departure day, but we COULD NOT not go back! This time my husband and I switched dishes from day one because they were THAT good - Sunshine Salad for me and he had the Grit Cake Platter. A new server that was just as good and just as nice, and a final experience that was totally perfect. You can’t go wrong here - you’ll just wish you had more time to...
