Worst managed front of house, overpriced, kind of obnoxious. We were four guests and arrived maybe 5 minutes late to our reservation, which we sincerely apologized for. The hostess said, “No worries! Your table isn’t quite ready yet.” Totally fine! Let’s get a cocktail and wait. The hostess said someone would be over to take our order. We received our drinks promptly and played some pool downstairs. So far, so good. After about 30 minutes I decided to check on our table with the hostess… “My manager gave away your table” These are words I never expected to hear at a place of this caliber, and the manager was the person who brought us our drinks. I was needless to say, pretty indignant, but polite. I asked how they were going to make this right. She said that we would have a better table in just a bit. We waited nearly 2.5 hours and then got seated at a table in like the restaurant highway, between the kitchen and the front bar. I took the outer seat so none of my guests would be bothered. I was getting bumped into the whole time. We were polite and cordial throughout, but our patience was running thin and everyone came hungry. They obviously noticed this and were nice enough to buy us a really small pour of some French red wine, but seriously!? For 3 hours of waiting to get any food? They also tried to play it off like it wasn’t a big deal, which was frankly insulting. My guests were good friends and we had all resigned ourselves to enjoy the company and make jokes about it and have the best time possible. We honestly would’ve left, but there isn’t anything else close by. Then outside of the debacle of seating, our waitress was relatively inattentive - barely got refills of water once throughout our meal. The food was good, definitely a well curated menu, but not spectacular. Not even an offer to get us dessert. Very expensive meal all in, for a highly dissatisfying result. That’s when I decided to not return to Butterfield, as I had seen a little too much...
Read moreHaving eaten at Butterfield quite a number of times it pains me a bit to say, but it seems like it has fallen off a bit.
The interior of the Hasbrouck House remains beautiful, interesting, and thoughtfully decorated. The entry lounge and basement game room are thoughtful additions (although the pool table was missing several balls).
The restaurant staff were very friendly and attentive for the most part. It seems like the drinks selections for various liquors/rye/bourbons has decreased with some more local options gone.
It could be the exhaustion of Hudson Valley restaurant "week" *which we were not specifically there for (our visit just happened to coincide with) but the menu options paled in comparison to what we were introduced to ~4 years ago. The items were standard fare and honestly uncreative. If you're going to drive all the way out to Stone Ridge, it needs to be for things that your can't order at essentially any mid tier American spot.
Our main dishes were well prepared, I will give the kitchen that credit. The timing and attention for our items was a little off - with a rather long gap between our starter and main dish. And similar uncomfortable gap waiting for dessert. No one checked back about drinks at any point.
When our desserts arrived my confidence was shook/broken. The creme brulee (a pretty generic offering) was 'off' and most definitely not freshly prepared (the consistency seemed to be 3+ days old), which had me rethinking the whole meal as well as whether I will be...

Three weeks ahead, we made a reservation for 4 at 7:30 on a Saturday night. We received a voicemail at 4pm the day of our reservation telling us that they had a private event and had to MOVE our reservation. We could either move back to 5-6pm or accept a table in the bar. When we called back, no one picked up. So we stopped by in person and agreed to the bar seats. When we got there, we were handed a menu with three appetizers and three entrees. The waitress said "oh, they didn't tell you about the limited menu?" We left and had a much better time down the street. Afterwards, we drove past to see this bustling private event and the dining room was just as empty as when we showed up.
I have questions for management Who doesn't know about a private event until the day of? Who calls three hours before a reservation to effectively cancel it? Who forgets to mention that you'll be given a menu with six things on it? Who delegates these uncomfortable conversations to servers? Where was the manager to take responsibility for their egregious mistake? Why cancel a 4-top to keep an empty dining room? Who fails -- at any point -- to apologize for this unacceptable change?
I guess it's our fault for even trying to do the bar seats. Should have just steered clear after that ridiculous voicemail. So incomprehensibly unprofessional. Save your money...
