I rarely (never) leave reviews, but I had such a disappointing experience here that I feel compelled to write something with the hope that this small business owner consider her future actions toward people.
I stopped in after dropping my daughter off at school. I’m a single, working mom and I’d volunteered to give a presentation to my daughter’s class. I’d taken time off of work and had a very small window to get a little work done before being offline. I’d never been in bodacious bagels (if you have children, you know that every second is precious, running around, trying to be places on time), and was excited to check out this local biz.
I waited in line and politely asked if they had WiFi before ordering a bagel. The owner replied “yes” and so I ordered the bagel, paid, and set up my computer. I didn’t see any WiFi login info around the store, so again, I waited politely until they served other customers in front of me and asked for the network. They then told me that I had to sign up for a free trial. Fine.
I signed up and the trial sent me a code… but I had no cell service! I asked the owner again if they had a network with a password and she said “no that was the only option,” that “no one else had ever had a problem.” They suggested that I go to the library (which was closed).
I explained to her that I had limited time, that I needed to work before I have a presentation at my daughter’s school. The owner said that she had a private network and didn’t want to give out the password.
I was frustrated; I asked for the bagel to go, they handed me a tiny waxed bag; as I was rushing to put the bagel in the bag, the other woman working told me to “stop being rude.”
So frustrating! It would have been so easy for both of them to HELP! To be KIND! Instead they were curt and rude and unwavering. The world needs more kindness! Especially to overwhelmed moms!
And the...
Read moreThis is my first time writing a review for any establishment because I was disgusted. I stopped by here with my girlfriend because I’ve had good bagels here in the past, but not in a long time (about two years since my last visit). I understand that arriving close to closing time can be an inconvenience. However, all I wanted to do was grab some bagels to go and they still had a half hour till closing time and we were the only ones in there. So as we were selecting our half dozen assortment to go, it was apparent that the lady behind the counter was becoming impatient as she kept shaking her head and rolling her eyes impatiently. I noticed a distinct smell of cigar/tobacco when we first walked in and didn’t think too much of it at first. We then asked for a cupcake that my girlfriend was excited to try (lemon lavender) as we completed our order and left. After getting down the road and ready to try our cupcake, my girlfriend licked the frosting upon which she immediately gagged. I took the cupcake and noticed that it REEKED of cigar/tobacco! I immediately wanted to gag! Upon further inspection we noticed little black specks all in the frosting (attached picture) For the record I am no stranger to this kind of aroma, in fact I don’t mind it; as long as it’s not in our freaking food! I will never come back here again. And as I sit here writing this review I find myself getting further irritated at the impatience that I received. I get that you want to pack up and leave, but you still got a half hour till your posted closing time and it’s not like we asked for a sandwich or for anything cooked. When I order food I’m always polite no matter how bad of a day the staff seem to have because I’ve been there before. I even left a tip...
Read moreHad a great first experience here. Sure, it's not a Manhattan eatery, but a really good bagel with lox and shmear also didn't cost over $20. Capers, shmear, a surprisingly generous helping of lox, on a delicious toasted bagle, in a lovely, small upstate town; it was excellent and well worth the cost. I must have missed the breakfast crowd as I only had one person ahead of me. While there was only one woman working behind the counter, she was pleasant and worked with skill and speed. Again, it's not some stylish joint in the city, but I personally did not find it dirty in any way. It's a little crowded, but there are decent seats around a few tables. The décor is very simple: refurbished and painted upstate farmhouse. The cappuccino was absolutely fine. Would order both bagel and espresso drink again. Have not tried eggs or...
