I'm visiting from North Carolina. Yesterday I found a cop and asked where the best place is for authentic NY pizza and pasta. Homemade sauce is a must. Cops always know the best places!
He gave me two names, Pizzarama and Cosimos. So, yesterday I stopped at Cosimos and said "I'm visiting from NC and I hear this place is great!" I asked "what pizza or pasta are you famous for?" I did not get any specifics, but went with their recommendation for a southwest pizza. It was good, but not really what I had in mind. Maybe he thought it was a NC thing.
Today I ventured out to recommendation #1, Pizzarama. I introduced myself and instead of asking for anything famous, I ordered a sausage & pepperoni calzone. It's HUGE! After checkout, the cook said "wait a minute I want to give you something to try." Out of the oven came a big square pizza. He topped it off with fresh basil and cut me a big slice to go. I believe he said it was the RAMA! The favorite! And sure enough everything on that pizza was homemade. The sauce blew me away. The perfect combination of fresh ripe garden tomatoes that stood out above all the other ingredients making the most AWESOME NY authentic sauce. No wonder it was #1 of the cops favorites.
For the calzone, the cook sent me out with 2 extra marinara sauces... my dream lunch and dinner here at the Hampton Inn. I cannot overstate the excitement of you New Yorkers' pizza to a North Carolinian transplant. Your cardboard boxes are better than our best pizza! Save for one place in Ashville NC (828 Family Pizzeria)... run by New Yorkers.
To compare Pizzarama to Cosimos... no can do. It just wouldn't be fair, and I may never know. The fabulous food, customer service, and keen awareness of the cook just made me a loyal patron to Pizzarama! You can bet, I...
Read moreWent into pizzarama for lunch today and couldn't decide what i wanted to indulge in. I was looking at their fantastic menu, which everything sounded and looked delicious i was at a quandary. I was used to all the usual items on the menu when Lenny said let me make you some meatball parm sliders! I didn't hesitate to say yes! The meatball parm sliders where extravagant. They where fresh and tasted amazing with Lennys new recipe and fresh ingredients put between a warm recently made garlic knot topped with a savory slice of fresh mozzarella. I highly recommend trying these while they aren't on the menu as of now don't be afraid to ask Lenny or his highly wonderful staff as they will be very happy to accommodate...
Read morePizza tasted like grilled cheese. Sauce was bland, pizza was so thin, you couldn't really fold it, not NYC pizza. I didn't bother getting anything else, since they couldn't do a regular slice right. This place rates, just like the rest of the pizza places in orange county. Maybe one day, someone will open up a decent pizza shop.
Edit: I went back to try the chicken roll, at the recommendation of one of the other reviewers. I did not like it at all. Like the previous reviewer, I'm use to NYC pizza. Most pizza places in NYC suck. You have to know where to go. I've had chicken rolls down in the city, that are 1000 times better than this. There so good, that they are actually addicting. ...
