One Saturday night, we came in for a small to go order. I asked what was the size for a side of rice and one of the ladies showed me different containers. I pointed at the tinfoil like one and told her I wanted that size of arroz con gandules. We also ordered some appetizers including alcapurrias, then sat in the chairs across the counter. Approximately 35 minutes later, we inquired about our order. We were given an attitude and told we were only waiting on the alcapurrias because they are made fresh to order. Ummmm, ok. Another 25 min go by and we're wondering if we should've just taken a trip to the cuchifrito on 116th. I'm standing at the counter now. Yes I'm annoyed, considering tables that came in and sat long before us are wrapping up their meals. The lady at the counter sees me and immediately starts whispering something to the other one and they both laugh. There were young children nearby so I didn't make a scene. Minutes later, our order was ready and we got the hell out of there. No apologies for the wait or anything. Something told me to check the bag before pulling out of the lot. The rice was missing. We went back in and they said we didn't order rice. I never was a given a receipt to prove otherwise. My nephew really wanted it, so I humbled my angered self to buy it (again). I would rather (and have after this experience) travel for quality food and service. The rice was ok. The canoa's plantain was too firm, not even ripe enough for sweetness. The pics are of the longed after "freshly made alcapurrias". They were overcooked...
Read moreHave to share. I walked in and I was told that there wasn't any pernil left. We had called several hours earlier and there was pernil then. I watched as multiple patrons walked in before and after picking up half and full trays of pernil. I shared my concern and asked how am I the only order that they ran out of pernil for. The cook must have heard me and spoke to one of the servers. She said don't worry we're going to take the pernil from another order. I assumed an order that hadn't been picked up. I waited 50 minutes for a catering order that was called in advance. I never got an eta, an update, or an apology for the wait. I have been going to Minas and now Tainos since the first open. I cant continue to here any longer after having problems with multiple catering orders.
Price for catering has exploded. Went to Mina's what this originally was for years. Prices dont match in Google search vs Taino site. Cannot recommend this anymore-$54 for a half tray of Pernil now. Original price still available in Catering section when you google remains at $40. Try Nellys in Chester for good food at reasonable prices....
Read moreFood is alright but today my husband ordered food and when he got home his tostones weren’t there. He called and they said they were sure they put it. So he checked our car and the steps back to our house. NOTHING. I call back (my husband has the flu). The rude lady on the phone tells us that she knows she gave it to us and we can order another tostones( wait so I have to pay twice for missing food). She then says you guys have done this before with missing food. What?!?!?!?! Literally three years ago I ordered two of the same order (I remember because I was pregnant with my daughter and lived farther away) and only received one. I told her you know what forget it, because honestly I paid for a lesson learned about the unprofessionalism there. And if you have ever ordered there and waited you know how chaotic they are. And before anyone thinks I’m being crazy my husband and I we’re both restaurant manager in NYC and my husband is an executive chef currently so we do understand mistakes but not the disgusting...
