Althea's Finger Lakes Tavern — Restaurant in Town of Montour

We’ve done pickup from Althea’s plenty of times, but this time, we decided to step out and enjoy a nice dinner at a local spot—and I couldn't be happier with our experience!

From the moment we walked in, the welcoming and cozy atmosphere was undeniable. We were invited to sit wherever we felt comfortable, and our server arrived right away with menus. She enthusiastically shared the specials, which sounded amazing—something both our server, Raiana, and the bartender eagerly confirmed.

Our drinks arrived quickly and were delicious, and the food followed soon after. Raiana was incredible—she checked on us multiple times, brought extra napkins and plates for our appetizers, refilled our waters, and seemed to anticipate everything we needed before we even had to ask.

The honey pork chops were out of this world! Paired with mashed potatoes and crispy string beans, it was the perfect combination. But fair warning—it’s a special, so it may not always be available! The jalapeño burger was also cooked to perfection, making for an all-around delicious meal in an incredibly friendly and welcoming environment.

Our hungry group of five arrived at Althea’s about 1/2 hour before closing time on a Friday night not realizing the kitchen had closed already. The bartender Rai, who was just sweeping up and getting ready to close, welcomed us in and said we could still order from the fried food selection. We had a whole variety of wings, chicken tenders, onion rings, fried green beans, fried mushrooms and sweet potato fries. All delicious and served with a smile & friendly conversation. We were sooo happy and thankful for Rai!! She went far above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed. Although we did not intend to stay long, we did end up overstaying the closing time by quite a bit, but we were never rushed or made to feel it was a problem. Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent atmosphere but most importantly, excellent service! ...

This place is a gem! Come for the booze, stay for the food!

We came late the first night into town and the bar lady told us they were closing the kitchen very soon, but encouraged us to order. The burger was juicy and well-appointed. Wife said the spicy grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries were tasty. We got a couple cocktails and called it a night.

We went back our next-to-last day (Wednesday) and got a fantastic dozen wings, and a couple of local beers. My wife got the mushroom-Swiss burger. The owner chatted us up a bit. Real down-to-earth, very apparently loves to cook.
