We had a really fantastic first meal here on Sunday. We were a group of four (3 adults, one child) and arrived shortly after the 1 PM opening and many tables were already taken, and the food aromas were incredible-a good sign! The interior is intimate but not cramped, with space in Piermont being at a premium. Overall, we had a great experience with food and service and would return. The restaurant itself is not so fancy that you absolutely must dress up, and I also consider it child friendly for well behaved children, considering we had a six year old with us.

Food ordered:

Albondigas picante (spicy meatballs)-These were on point with flavor and spice. The meatballs and the sauce were delicious and great for dipping bread into. Pulpo a la plancha (my personal choice since I love octopus)-I don’t know what’s in Galician seasoning, but this dish was outstanding. The octopus was incredibly tender and I don’t think I’ve ever had octopus cooked that well. It was a flavorful and fun dish. Vieiras rellenas (stuffed scallop shells)-These were good but let’s not kid ourselves, the thick slice of Applewood bacon was the star. The filling was good but a bit too much breadcrumb flavor for my personal taste. I felt it overpowered the seafood. Gambas al ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce)-This was probably my favorite dish, tied with the octopus. The shrimp was very well seasoned and flavorful and cooked well. Croquetas del dia (croquettes of the day)-These were fine, I don’t recall the specific variety offered that day but they were fried and crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. I thought they could have used a bit more seasoning but the sauce on the side (mayo-based, aioli perhaps?) went well with them. Marisco paella for two (seafood paella)- The portion is incredibly generous for 2, and considering all the other dishes the 4 of us had previously, we managed to get through maybe a third of the skillet. I’m not the biggest fan of the texture/appearance of mussels and clams, which this dish is generous with, so this wasn’t my choice, but I enjoyed the other seafood and the rice itself was flavorful. However, I was looking for the crispy bottom and though some of the rice was a bit toothsome, I missed the crispiness that paella is famous for. There were several scallops and shrimp and a few scant pieces of squid that were devoured.

We were completely stuffed so of course, had to order dessert. I chose the churros con chocolate, which were thinner and more crispy and less chewy than any churros I’ve had previously. They were delicious and I really enjoyed the texture and the sauce that came with them. My MIL chose the apple galette, which similarly was well made, flavorful, and incredibly delicious. I had a glass of rose sangria that was fine. I usually drink and serve sangria cold and there were a few ice cubes but the drink was room temperature. I sometimes make sangria at home and it was no better than any that I’ve made, minus a point because it was warm. I had a pineapple mimosa after that, which was good.

Overall, my personal favorite dishes were the octopus; shrimp; meatballs; and the churros. The food came out quickly, the service was attentive, refills were offered, clean plates were given for the paella, and overall, we had a great meal...

Great place with amazing food, however, the manager with the burgundy shirt made us feel uncomfortable and let me explain why. It was myself, my wife and her sister and we are Latinos. He did not acknowledge us when we arrived , however, he made a point to acknowledge the white couples behind us, no problem as they appeared to be locals. We sat down pretty fast even as the place was pack. More people kept arriving that he knew as he kept giving them hugs and shook hands with them. I noticed that he kept looking at our table as to tell us to hurry up no problem. We order tapas and a sangria to start. My wife and her sister order and paella, and the waiter told us that it would take approximately about 40 minutes for it to be done and we said not a problem. However, i noticed that the manager continued to come around as to say to hurry up. In conclusion, the entire stay in the place for us was about an hour, as we stood up the manager made a gesture with his hands and looked at us as to say it’s about time, which my wife saw and did not like as there were people sitting down that were there before before us. I am prominent -business owner who could have paid for everyone’s dinner and his salary and were dressed for the occasion who drove about an hour from upstate because we love the place. The bad part about this is that he is Mexican barely speaks English (not that it matters) but he should understand what it is to feel not welcome . His staff are super nice it is a sham that they are led by him. Needless to say that may be will not go back and might express our experience with others. Internal Racism… if you are the owner you should really look at that. It’s shame so great food but if you are Latino the experience...

We picked this place for trying out some good tapas and Paellas, and they didn’t disappoint. Just quality and sublime food served here.

The restaurant is situated in the river banks of Piermont, there’s a parking lot, that literally has a pavement deck into the river. The restaurant is small, but has a nice bar and comfortable ambiance. The menu has nice collection of tapas, few Paellas , entrees, salad and soup. Lots of wine and drinks are also served here.

We got the filet mignon and lamb chop tapas to start. They were prepared so well. Perfect temperature, tender meat, dishes made with complimenting vegetables. We ordered the seafood Paella for four. It takes about 25 minutes to prepare, so let them know asap. It was a massive, full of mussels, shrimps, clamps, scallops and baby squids. All served on top of yummy yellow rice. Four grown ups combined, we managed to finish only half of the plate, rest we took home and over next couple of days. It was still very delicious. We ended our lunch with Flan, that was sweet and soft.

Overall we loved the food. But the service was little spotty, as we saw only one server attending all the tables. It was little overwhelming for the person, working in a full house shift. I also didn’t like the fact they charged for every soda refill, even though the glass holds least than half a can soda, filled with ice. Despite some of these shortfalls, I still recommend this place for the superior quality...

My friend and I meet up in Piermont twice a year, but we usually go elsewhere. We decided to go to Basque to try it out and they stayed open a bit later then some other places. We were going to sit in the back area, but we could not hear each other because it was very crowded. There were two seats at the bar so we decided to sit there. Glad we did as the acoustics were much better. The bartender was so friendly and patient while we tried to figure out what to order. He also made a killer Old Fashioned! We ordered 4 tapas plates. The shrimp and garlic was out of this world! Cooked to perfection and so flavorful. All the food was fresh and amazing! Toward the end of the night near closing time, there was a birthday. Then it was past closing time and people were still there, so we started a bit longer. They brought my friend and I a piece of cake… I thought… ‘Wow, how nice of them.” After about 30 minutes we met the birthday ‘boy’ behind the bar. He may have been the owner. He was super nice… And that’s when I said to my friend, “I think we are crashing their after hours birthday party!” It was 40 minutes after closing time. We didn’t realize that was all happening, but not one person asked us to leave. Honestly, it was very kind it then not to kick us out. Pretty funny really- maybe not to them but you wouldn’t know it! Overall- an amazing experience for both of us. We ate every last bite of food. Very impressed 💕
