We were a frequent, every-other-week customers (frequent enough for the waitresses recognizing us right the way) and we took our visitors and family here ofter until last week. We came Friday night as usual, got on the waiting list, been told it gonna be about 20 minutes waiting time. After about 15 minutes the sweetheart hostess offered a high top table to us which we accepted. Before we could sit down a waitress run over and yelled on the hostess front of us that she cant give us that table because we have a child with us (and the very safe child seat we bought with us) We walked back to the waiting area and watched for 40 mintues EVERYONE, really EVERYONE who walked in to be seated right the way before we asked if there is an issue. The long haired manager (shaking his hair all over the place, gross!) would refuse to give us a table because it was only 3 of us and he didn't wanted to waste the 3 totally empty, 6 people table on us. Needless to say, the hostess was super embarrassed and we walked out without dinner. We never gonna come back, there are other places serving pizza where they treat they regulars better than this. By the way we went to Zapata down the road where they found a table for us right the way without any issue despite the full restaurant and we had a great dinner with outstanding service. Our...
Read moreMy wife was here in the 70s and me never so we decided last night to come here. It was a great decision. We had small cheese pie and large onion and meatball. They were awesome. The potato skins a disappointment though- small and not loaded at all. Though our waitress Laura was excellent and tended to our every need. The place still has that 70s look and Thank God to that. It has that comfortable friends and family able to mingle together aura. The tables are close but were not a problem last night. The staff was friendly from the hostess who greeted us as soon as we walked through the door to those we spoke with after about where some of the "kids" were off and heading to college after their summer work. We had the brownie deluxe for dessert and another highly recommended ask for. The bar looked like a nice place to have a few. Its kept its charm and appeal despite I am sure fresh revisions to the place since the 70`s but that look and aura still remain inside. I would rate it as the number 2 pizza in area for specialty pies- ok.. 1 Nanuet Hotel 2 Mountain House 3 Nanuet Restaurant 4 Kinchleys... The Mountain House though needs to work on the appys from what we experienced. Highly recommended-great place-We...
Read moreI practically never post reviews, but The Mountain House deserves one. I've been coming here since (quite literally) the turn of the century, and it has n-e-v-e-r let me down. Mountain House has, without question, the best thin crust pizza around. Always hot, always delicious, always satisfying. I now live and work over an hour away, and drive to Sparkill just for their amazing pizza. Back in the day, I worked 5 minutes away, and that meant eating lunch at MH at least 3 times a week, sometimes more. Cracker thin pizza, great appetizers, cold beer. What's not to love?
Try the Fra Diavolo with hot peppers - it's amazing. Try the pepperoni - it gets nice and crispy on top. Try the tomato/garlic/basil. Fresh and delicious. Try the bacon - extra crispy, just like the pepperoni. The only pie I won't eat anymore is the Garbage Pie; this was a favorite of a coworker who passed away in an accident way too young, so we've retired it in his honor. (RIP Alan!)
Seriously - If you haven't been here, you owe it to yourself. And if you have, you STILL owe it to yourself.
There's pizza, and then there's Mountain...
