Jade Eatery Team,
I wanted to start this review by expressing how excited I was when I heard about the opening of your new location in Hicksville. For over 20 years, I was a frequent guest at your Forest Hills location and have always appreciated the exceptional service and food you provided. So, when my sister and best friend asked me where they'd take me to dinner for my birthday, I immediately thought of your new location, remembering the wonderful experiences I'd had at your restaurant in the past.
Unfortunately, our visit on 2/12, with a reservation for 7:45 PM, was far from the experience I anticipated. From the moment we arrived, we felt rushed, which was surprising given that the restaurant had plenty of other diners. The server was less than pleasant and seemed focused on pushing us out as quickly as possible. He came back to our table 2-3 times within a 10-minute window to ask if we were ready to order, even though we were still deciding. Ultimately, we ordered appetizers just to alleviate the pressure he was putting on us.
I politely informed him that we did not want to feel rushed, as we were celebrating my birthday and don't often have the chance to get together, so we wanted to truly enjoy the experience. He smiled and said okay, but instead of respecting our wishes, he sent other staff members to continue rushing us. We were still working on our appetizers when the entrees were placed on the table. This disrupted the flow of our meal, and we couldn't even enjoy the appetizers we were still eating.
When I informed the server that the Kai Chi was fatty, tough to chew and seemed undercooked, he didn't respond and simply took the plate away. There was no offer of a replacement or even an apology.
To top it all off, gratuity was added to our check. We were a table of three and I'm not sure when it became standard practice to automatically include gratuity for a party of this size. This felt extremely inappropriate given the service we received. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 15 years. I can understand that things can happen and I have always been lenient but last night was unacceptable.
The only positive aspect of the evening was a kind gentleman at the bar who was gracious enough to take a photo of us in your beautiful restaurant.
We left feeling extremely disappointed. I regret choosing Jade Hicksville for this special occasion and hope my feedback can help your staff improve for future...
Read moreMy friends and I visited Jade as we saw it all over Instagram and wanted to celebrate a recent engagement with some good food and drinks. The google listing for the restaurant says they don't accept reservations but we were asked at the door about one. We informed them we didn't have one and were seated within 10 minutes. The four of us ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees and enjoyed all the food. One of our friends is post-op on a strict diet so while ordering, we inquired about a possible substitute for the rice for her entrée and were simply told, no. We understand it's a new establishment that might be more strict on subs, so we let it go. I had the pink lychee martini, which was strong, so for my second round I decided to order the berry bubbly. I couldn't remember the name of the drink so I explained to the waiter I wanted the cocktail with prosecco in it. He misunderstood and brought me a small bottle of prosecco and a glass. I told him that I wanted a specific cocktail and before I could grab the menu to clarify he began to open the small bottle to pour. My friends had to raise their voices to ask him not to pour it as I wanted to order the drink I wanted, not the plain prosecco. When I pulled it up and said I wanted the berry bubbly he loudly huffed, snatched the glass from the table and stomped off. I understand having a difficult day, but my friends and I were as nice as we could be without having to be stuck paying for an item we did not want, so we were all taken aback by the waiter's attitude to something pretty standard at restaurants. Instead of trying to make things better, he came back a few minutes later and asked us if we wanted the check. We were never offered dessert and ended up going elsewhere for that. What was just as surprising was seeing that a 20% gratuity charge AND a credit card fee were both added to the receipt. The price for the berry bubbly also wasn't the same price on the receipt against the menu. We found a manager, expressed our concerns and she assured the tip would be taken off the bill. I would maybe return for happy hour as a second chance for the food/drinks but just keep an eye on your receipt before signing anything or better yet, bring cash.
EDIT: Someone from Jade reached out to someone from our party and adjusted the price of the drink, removed the tip, and apologized for the negative part of our experience. We appreciate the effort and hope to...
Read moreI went there with my mom and brother for my birthday dinner. I specified on the reservation that it was my birthday. Despite the restaurant being maybe a quarter full, we were put next to a family of 5 and the tables were so close together, my mother had a very difficult time getting into the booth. We waited for a waiter/waitress but it took us asking another waiter for help, for our waitress to finally come over. She handed us 3 menus, which were electronic so I had to explain it to my elderly mother.
I ordered a pina colada, which is usually frozen however she said they didn't have the machine to make it frozen so I got a liquid, luke warm, pina colada. Disgusting.
We ordered the coconut shrimp and shrimp dumplings for appetizers. Both were fine but the coconut shrimp did not look like the photo in the menu. It tasted as if it came out of Restaurant Depot's freezer with thai chili sauce. No coconut flavoring at all.
We ordered the lamb chops, szechuan chicken, pineapple fried rice and sushi. Let's start with the lamb chops. So incredibly dry with too many spices that gave me heart burn. A sauce would've been extremely helpful. The szechuan chicken was good and flavorful. The pineapple fried rice was incredibly dry and had, maybe, 3 pieces of pineapple inside. Our waitress was incompetent and gave our sushi order to another table, so we had to wait for them to make another order. The rice was mushy and it tasted wet!
I was going to order dessert because I was already irritated but I needed something to keep this food down. I asked for chocolate ice cream, which is on the menu and was told they don't have any.
I received my check and left. It was the worst birthday experience I've ever had. I will not be coming back to this restaurant, ever again.
*REVISED - After this review was posted, the manager reached out to me and made me a new dinner consisting of lamb chops, coconut shrimp, szechuan chicken and pineapple fried rice. I will say I'm grateful he took the time to do this because I was not happy at this restaurant. However, I'm keeping my opinion on the lamb chops and coconut shrimp. The szechuan chicken and pineapple fried rice were very good. Thank you again for trying to rectify the situation. I...
