Smartwich is an 11/10.
This is my first time writing a review. I hope I do this place justice. It’s a bit hard to find this place if you don’t know about it because it’s inside a bakery, but that’s a plus because as soon as you walk in the smell of sweet pastries is wafting through the air.
I came into Smartwich with my dad when it wasn’t very busy and the service was amazing. The person behind the counter introduced himself as Chef Michael and walked us through the sandwich options and all of them looked delicious. I chose a bacon one and my dad picked a chicken one.
My dad and I shared our sandwiches. The bread was freshly made, and the outside had a nice golden brown crust that had a satisfying sound when you bit into it. The bacon one had a light sweet and tangy sauce accompanying the bread which really complimented it and the bacon which was tasty, the tomatoes and lettuce were fresh as well.
The one my dad chose with chicken was a bit more simpler in terms of flavor. The pastrami spread complimented the bread along with the fresh avocados and chicken. It’s a good sandwich when you need something lighter. My dad had asked for some hot sauce, it was homemade and Chef Micheal’s introduction to it emphasized how passionate Chef Michael was about the food he makes as a lot of his menu has homemade food but he takes the time to talk about its history as well.
Lastly, after talking with Chef Michael we ended up getting warm fresh pasteles de nata these were my personal highlight and made this place an 11 out of 10, this sweet taste lingered on my tongue pleasantly and I still have a good memory of it even though I am finishing writing this review days later. It’s something my dad wishes he had gotten more of.
This place should absolutely be given the chance it deserves, so don’t sleep on this place, you won’t regret going. I know the only regret I had was not having more of my family to enjoy...

I had first come across SmartWich from DineLI group and as soon as we had the chance we checked it out and we weren’t disappointed! Chef Guerrieri is a master sandwich creator…balancing components and their flavors perfectly between a beautiful, Portuguese hero roll. The rolls themselves are spectacular with just the right amount of crunch on the outside and softness inside. Every part of a SmartWich sandwich compliments each other…no one overpowers the other and THAT is what makes a SmartWich sandwich great!!! Not to mention Chef G. puts his passion, love and character not only in his menu items, but in his appreciation for customers who enjoy his sandwiches. Inside Francesco’s bakery in Hicksville go check them out. We haven’t made it through the entire menu yet but my husband’s favorite is the sardine, mine is the sausage and my teenaged son likes the sausage & the roast beef sandwiches. Wish I had photos but as soon as we get them in our hands we dig in and don’t think to snap a pic until we have two bites left!...
Read moreI went to Francisco's bakery for some fresh bread and pastries when I spied with my little eye "Pastel De Nata" (warm flaky crust filled with custard)! I had to have some! I was pointed to the left side of the bakery where SmartWich is sharing with the bakery. Chef Guerrieri was waiting with a big welcoming smile and a bubbly personality. I got 6 of the pastries, went home, and came back for more! Chef Guerrieri made his home here in Long Island, after living in Lisbon, Portugal, for 17 years. How blessed we are to have him. Check out his YouTube videos. Anyhow, I have since tried his gourmet sandwiches, octopus, fresh sardines, bacon and Squash blossoms. They were all fresh, delicious, and huge! The Squash Blossoms sandwich always run out, so you have to reserve/order online the previous day. I am so happy to have found Chef Guerrieri and his awesome SmartWich! I plan on trying every single one of his SmartWich creations. I can't pick a favorite, they are all so deliciously fresh and a meal...
