Opus Mediterranean Restaurant, nestled in the charming town of Jericho, Long Island, is a gem within the Anthony Scotto Restaurant Group, which includes other prestigious venues such as Blackstone Steakhouse and Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi. This exquisite establishment is situated in a meticulously redesigned North Shore mansion, featuring a contemporary architectural style that seamlessly blends with natural earth tones, cathedral ceilings, and panoramic glass walls offering views of lush gardens and terraces.
The menu at Opus is a culinary journey through Mediterranean flavors, prime dry-aged steaks, and fresh seafood. The open-concept kitchen allows diners to witness the art of cooking in real-time. Complementing the gastronomic experience is an impressive wine list with over 600 selections, alongside a variety of draft beers and specialty cocktails.
My evening began with the signature cocktail, "That’s Amore," a delightful blend of Fenza fig vodka, pomegranate, lemon, and fresh blueberry, setting a perfect tone for the meal.
Chef Richie curated a special tasting menu, showcasing his prowess and even personally presenting many of the dishes. The first course featured a chilled heirloom tomato gazpacho with roasted corn, jumbo lump crab meat, shrimp, and a delicate drizzle of olive oil—a refreshing start with layers of vibrant flavors.
Following this, a charcuterie platter presented an array of delicacies: prosciutto de Parma, aged prosciutto, and three distinct spreads—cold tuna, eggplant Kanata, and whipped Parmesan. Accompanied by Spanish manchego cheese, Spanish prosciutto with a strawberry-blueberry preserve, and focaccia-style pita, each bite was a symphony of taste and texture.
The Australian lamb chops arrived next, marinated to perfection and served with a fruit mustard composed of dried candied fruit, alongside a mint-infused tzatziki sauce. The frizzy side salad added a refreshing contrast to the rich lamb.
The pasta course, Riccia con Tonno, was a delightful mix of tagliatelle and black spaghetti, adorned with tuna, scallops, shrimp, roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, and a lemon butter sauce, each element harmonizing beautifully.
For the grand finale, Branzino over rice with calamari, clams, shrimp, tomatoes, and peas in a beurre blanc sauce was a masterful blend of seafood and delicate flavors, showcasing the chef’s skill in balancing ingredients.
Dessert was a spectacular ending: a house-made donut filled with a crème brûlée filling, topped with vanilla bean gelato, accompanied by fresh mixed berries, homemade whipped cream, and a scoop of house-made coconut sorbet—a perfect culmination of the meal.
Opus Mediterranean Restaurant excels in every aspect—ambiance, service, and cuisine. The attention to detail is impeccable, with an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. For those seeking an exceptional dining experience on Long Island, this restaurant and its sister establishments come highly recommended. A special mention to Mark, whose service added an extra touch of excellence to the evening. Do not miss the handmade lemonade, a delightful...
Read moreWe just had my son’s graduation at Opus and were very disappointed with our experience. Aside from the place looking nice, all else was significantly lacking and totally mis managed! I will start with the serving of our appetizers – I could understand placing a few cold items on the tables prior to the guest arriving – but serving hot appetizers prior to guest arriving is completely outrageous. My wife tried to rectify this by letting our server know – which was probably the worst thing she could have done – as everything just went downhill from there. The prudent thing to do would have been to own up to the mistake and re-make fresh appetizers when the guests arrived and seat - this was not done – they just brought back the same appetizers COLD. Ironically, while there seamed to be such a rush to get all Appetizers out, the 2nd Course and Entrée orders were not taken till at least 45 - 60 minutes after the 1st course was cleared hence a ridiculously long wait till the 2nd and 3rd Course were served. Dinner (3rd Course) was served completely piecemeal – there was a significant lag of time between the serving of the Entrees and the sides and additional Entrees (to be served family style) came out when everyone was pretty much done with there meal. When the party was over, I was told that I was bill was $800.00 short of the minimum spend – while it was nice of the waiter to suggest taking a expensive bottle of wine home – I did not do the party to take home an expensive bottle of wine. I was fine with the Minimum Spend and committed to it – but I did feel that they could have told me as the party was progressing that I was going to be shy of the spend – and decided what to do earlier rather than at the end. I could assure you I would not have opted to take anything home – perhaps I would have tried something I never tried before with my guest. As this was a significant milestone for me and my family, the shortcomings in your service and management were particularly disheartening. My wife worked so hard to make the event special I was hoping that you venue would compliment her efforts - it did not. Common Sense would dictate that a $200.00 + per person with a $6,000.00 Spend Guarantee for 27 persons would get you a well organized and elevated culinary experience – I was wrong. Not sure where the Management or supervision was but no-one was watching what was going on nor did anyone even come by to ask if everything was OK. In a nutshell – a pretty place is not enough – this place lacked the management, coordination and the love required to make a pleasant...
