Incredibly rude staff who canceled my online order because they told me I didnt tip enough.
I placed an order online for delivery for one shrimp wonton soup. Within a few minutes, I received a call from Orient Odyssey and a lady asked me if I had placed the order, and when I confirmed, she told me my tip was not enough and that the driver won’t deliever my food becuase the tip is too little. She then told me to cancel the order since the driver won’t deliver it. She said it exactly that way, basically word for word. I was shocked and confused and I assumed at first that it a was a driver that worked for the app, so I just explained to the app support what happened, and I received a refund. Obviously I was a little confused and put off that the driver would do that, but I placed another order at the same restaurant for one porkchop dish. This time, I included a greater tip just in case something may happen again (this has never happened to me before). Again, I received a call from Orient Odyssey and the same woman asked if I had placed the order and then told me that my tip was not enough and even asked that upon the driver’s arrival if i could tip an extra dollar or two, or else they would refuse to deliver it because it isn’t enough. I was at a loss for words on the call and that was when I realized that the delivery drivers were their personal ones, and they were cancelling my orders because they deemed my tip insufficient.
I will admit, my tip wasnt bountiful, but a TIP IS A TIP. I’m a full time student and I do not have a job. I am across the country right now, so I could not have picked up food for my friend and delivery is the only option for me. It was evident on the call from my voice that I am not some grown adult who would have a nice paying job and money. Even the app customer support wrote that it is not appropriate for restaurants to do this. Shame on the driver and shame on the lady who had the audacity to cancel my order TWICE over a delivery tip. Extremely...
Read moreMy family and I have been dining at this restaurant for about 4 yrs now. Most of the time we enjoy the food. However, on the last 3 occasions the standard and quality of dishes have declined significantly. We ordered the whole flounder fish, there was no seasoning. Pineapple chicken fried rice and seafood fried rice was very bland, also no taste, no seasoning. Beef soup, no taste. We are not sure if they changed the chef but whoever is cooking is not making the dishes like before. We asked for some bigger plates to eat in and were told the small saucers are the biggest. Its very uncomfortable to eat in such small saucers. This is America. You can do better. We asked the waiter for water, another man came over to ask how many water? Also, this is America its customary to be served water at restaurants as soon as youre seated. In addition everytime we visited this restaurant we always tip generously because we eat out alot and know that waiters get paid almost nothing by employers. Our check was $170 my husband left $20 tip which was generous based on the quality of food and service. The waitress came back with the money and started to count it at the table infront of all our guest. How embarrassing!!! There was a new addition on the check which my husband overlooked, which was the tip guide which stated he should pay $28 in tip. Just a note to the owner of this restaurant, tipping in New York is expected but is not mandatory. It is at the discretion of the customer. No restaurant is supposed to demand a tip. My husband added $10 to the tip. It is also, illegal to put the tip on the check. Customers should give tip based on the service they received. Based on the above experience we will not be returning to this restaurant any longer. I hope this review can...
Read moreWonton soup and hot and sour soup were both delicious. Their egg rolls will remind you of the egg rolls you had as a kid! Crispy on the outside, a little bit of pork on the inside, and Chinese vegetables. Their shrimp and lobster sauce is Cantonese style, which is what I like. The first time I had it I asked for it with extra garlic and it was perfect. The second time I had it, I made the same request and they forgot the garlic.
The first two times we were there the service was attentive. That wasn't the case the last time the though, but it was good enough. I guess I was really hungry when I got there and even though it wasn't crowded it must have taken close to 10 minutes to get someone come to our table to take our order.
You don't go there for the atmosphere, you go...
