First the good: The food here is actually really tasty and absolutely worth coming back for. Now for the bad: If it weren’t for the high-traffic, easy-to-succeed, primo location at The Box Factory with it’s great exposure, and right on the Erie Canal, this place would be out of business. The customer service here is beyond abysmal. No one from the restaurant greeted us at the entrance. Instead we were greeted a line of confused people, standing there, looking around trying to figure out what to do. People who didn’t know whether to wait to be seated, or to go seat themselves. And a worthless dullard standing behind the bar (which happened to be right next to the unattended entrance) pretending to ignore what was going on right in front of him. It was unbelievable. Finally a random customer informed us that we were to order what we wanted from the dullard bartender and find a place to sit on our own. We ordered drinks, and some appetizers of chips and salsa and guacamole too. We also ordered several tasty tacos and some truly amazing street-style corn on the cob with Mexican cheese and spices. The unfriendly bartender/order-taker hardly looked up at us, only mumbled unintelligibly as we placed our order, and not smiling at us once the whole time. It was a weirdly uncomfortable interaction. Other customers openly commented about it too so it was not just us and it was not personal. The restaurant was less than half full, so we easily found an open table, cleared off the dirty dishes, placed them on another table full of dirty dishes, and seated ourselves. A genuinely friendly, young waitress quickly brought out our chips and salsa, and then followed up shortly after with our tacos. Drinks were brought last. Huh? We didn’t receive one of the three drinks we ordered or the guacamole so we let our waitress know, and she brought both out right away. Apparently neither were ever ordered by the bartender/order-taker. Like I said, this place has pretty tasty food. I would come back just for the awesome elote (corn on the cob) and the best home-made crispy taco shells I’ve eaten in a restaurant. Oh so good! I really hope lulu’s gets some decent management to fix the basic front-of-house issues this place has. I’ll be back for the...
Read moreMy co worker and I went there for lunch, we had been driving since 8:30 am seeing clients and by 1pm we were very hungry. As soon as we sat down we were offered nachos with salsa or guacamole. We chose salsa, I asked if it was made fresh, the waitress responded yes. We both ordered fish tacos for $5 and I ordered chicken tacos to take home for my daughter $6. I asked what kind of fish is used, the waitress said haddock, so we ordered. The waitress said ok let me put in your order. The waitress came back with our order in 3 minutes, as I see her coming towards us I commented, "wow that was fast." The waitress puts two saucer plates in front of us. We were served one taco on street size tortillas. We both looked at each other confused. Both tacos I asked for were on one plate. We asked were are the other tacos, the menu says tacos plural. We were served a piece of fish that was the size of the frozen Gordon fisherman fish sticks, they pile on the pickled cabbage and sauce and called it a fish taco. The chicken was canned, the tacos had zero flavor. The worste food I ever had, we ate it because we were hungry, we ended up going somewhere else to get a real meal. The waitress asked how was it, I told her. The owner came out upset saying his family cooks the food at there home fresh daily, he doesn't understand why I was not happy with the food. I explained to him the food didn't have flavor and both fish and chicken tasted as if they were store bought products. He simply said my family cooks the food there is nothing wrong with it. I said ok and he walked away. Mexican food just like any latin food is full of flavors that are particular to the culture. I am a cook, I know what is fresh and what comes out of a can. The only thing fresh on that table was the nachos that were fried corn tortillas and the salsa. $3.50 by the way, we weren't told they weren't part of the table as we wait for our food. Never again will I eat there, nor do I recommend it. I can only think the drinks are strong so people dont realize what they are eating doesn't...
Read moreThey need to look into hiring more mature/experienced servers. Our waitress (receipt says Lily) was not very attentive. After putting in drink orders and requesting chips, she did not come over to our table again for at least 15 - 20 mins. After watching other tables come and go, she finally stopped over at which point we informed her we were ready to order. She responded that she didn't know we wanted food and thought maybe we were just here for drinks. Mind you, we were sitting at a table, not the bar, and when she took our drink orders she never took the menus so weird she would think we didn't want food. By this point the drinks were gone, water was empty, and we had just been sitting there. What did she think we were waiting for? Anyways, we put in our order. The food took pretty long to come out considering it's tacos. The food was not how I requested. At this point it had been an hour of sitting out on their patio in 85° weather and still no water refill. Eventually Lily shows up again to ask how the food is. We ask for water and she brings out a bottle for us and I'm guessing it's just been sitting out because it's warm. Which means we have to wait for someone to come around AGAIN so we can ask for ice. Eventually someone comes and they bring back 1 glass of ice for two people. At this point I was over it. It looked like the other tables around us were getting good service so maybe Lily just had an issue with us. The food was decent but we were already annoyed by the time it came so I'm probably biased. The cocktail was underwhelming. Anyone who loves Mezcal knows it has a distinct flavor. I got no traces of Mezcal in my drink. Probably won't be returning based on service alone. Hoping this was just a Lily problem and not an establishment issue. She should not be in hospitality if she doesn't want to provide quality service to...
