I give this place one star because the food showed promise. However, there were too many negatives for us to consider returning. The service was terrible from the moment we entered the restaurant. The woman at the door commanded another young lady to seat us. The young lady walked us through the dining room where there was plenty of seating and sat us in a booth in the bar area where it was so dark we barely see. After we sat down we were informed that they hadn't received their liquor license. When I expressed disappointment, the woman (the same woman who commanded the young lady at the door) said in a very commanding tone "DON'T LEAVE." I did not leave because my husband and children were craving Indian food; but what self-respecting hard working person wants to eat out on a Saturday night and not have a glass of wine with their meal? Although the chili chicken appetizer was delicious, the samosas were room temperature. The worst part was it took over an hour for our entrees to come. The waitress never explained why it was taking the food so long to come (but kept offering us more ginger ale). I could have made chicken curry from scratch with a beautiful rice dish in the time it took to order and receive our meal. The naan was also cold, so it was like eating cold greasy bread (very unpleasant). Everyone seemed to enjoy their food but the portions were unbelievably small (much smaller than the prior location and way too small for the price). The rice was way overcooked and they do not have a brown rice option (which seems silly in light of their expansive menu). By the time we paid the bill, we could hear people waiting for their pick up orders complaining about how long it was taking. It seems that they cannot manage the take out orders and dining service at the same time. For a restaurant that calls itself "fine dining" the service was too casual and "familiar" which was offputting and inappropriate. We had a lovely meal at the restaurant when it first opened in Wappingers Falls during the pandemic. We were excited for this new addition to Dutchess County. We are saddened that it has gone downhill. I hope the owners take these criticisms seriously because this area needs a good Indian restaruant. But we will not be returning unless the retaurant makes some fundamental changes to the service, the menu, portion size and gets a...
Read moreWe dined at Tamarind for the second time the other evening and it was our first time there since they redecorated. The atmosphere and ambiance and decor is beautiful, serene, peaceful, clean, modern, chic. Lovely setting for a late evening dinner. We arrived around 7:30 and were going to be seated in general seating tables with a decent amount of other patrons. It was busy but not crowded. We asked if we could please be moved to a more private booth on other side and they happily obliged. The new booths are semi circle shaped and couch material. So fancy and modern and comfortable as well. We were greeted by probably the best server we have ever had ever!, Bri. She was wonderful from beginning to end. Friendly, cheerful, helpful, went above and beyond to recommend drinks and explain ingredients in food items, etc. We had hot and sour soup, delicious. Samosa' and sweet potatoes with fig/ date....wow! The flavor combinations are simply mouth watering and tantalizing to your taste buds! Each meal is made with care from scratch and every item that came out could be photographed for a magazine, that's how gorgeous the presentation was for each dish...attention to detail with garnish, etc... For main courses we got the eggplant curry, which is the 2nd time I've had that, and it is simply delicious. A creamy cashew sauce with the tender baby eggplant and the basmati rice is perfection! We also had the goat dish with rice and the meat and it was tender and full of rich amazing flavor as well. We had the Indian coffee which was delicious and prepared authentically as well. We had minimal leftovers and were even given little containers to bring home delicious dipping sauces. Again, Bri was the most amazing server. We wish her success in furthering her culinary career and we thank her for capturing our wonderful dinner celebration with a picture of the 2 of us. All in all, Tamarind is an excellent dining location and the prices are affordable and reasonable especially for homemade, scratch food in a very clean, modern, fancy atmosphere. Thank you!! We look forward to our...
Read moreI've been to Tamarind before at their old location. After they moved, their service has definitely deteriorated. Here are the specifics:
The waitress (Soumya) had no knowledge of the menu. When asked about a specific item, she started explaining that she was a vegetarian so she didn't know what that means. We requested if we could talk to Manoj (the chef), she came back and told us that Manoj was busy Chicken vindaloo was a disaster. It was literally boiled chicken soaked in tomato puree The staff seemed overwhelmed. There wasn't enough follow-up and the service took too long There was no alcohol and there was no option to bring your own There was no supervisory staff, like a restaurant manager, the waiters and host (who seemed to be doubling as a waitress) seemed to have no direction or training The restaurant was filled with what seemed like foreign students from Marist - not a very discerning crowd My wife and I had planned to take some American guests to this restaurant to showcase some good Indian food. But after experiencing the terrible service, we changed our plans I spoke with a friend about our experience. He told me, he had the exact same experience, and swore never to go back there When my daughter called to make a reservation, she was told that they don't accept reservations, but when we walked in, the hostess asked if we had a reservation All in all, the place seemed disorganized and mismanaged. The owners can pay attention to these negative reviews and take action, or let the clientele fade away with time. It's their choice
I am a well-wisher. I want this restaurant to succeed. I am big fan of quality Indian food and a good ambience. This place is slowly turning into maybe an occasional take out place, but not a place for a nice sit down dinner. I hope the management of Tamarind...
