This place is OK. The prices are a bit high but depending on what you order, the portions can be large. I ordered one of their "overstuffed combination sandwiches."
The sandwich was poorly constructed though. As much as I appreciate stuffing a sandwich with as much meat as possible as this place does, they put the meat along with lettuce, tomato and Russian dressing on very flimsy bread. The bread is good tasting bread, but it does not hold together a sandwich well that is piled high with meat and also has tomato and dressing. The bread becomes a soggy mess that does not hold together.
In addition the meat was dry. And unfortunately, the Russian dressing was placed just on the top so only the top layer of meat tasted good while everything underneath was dry. With that many layers of meat, they should put dressing in the middle of those layers somewhere. (Or just not serve dry bland meat).
I got a side of waffle fries as well (for $7!!!) that was very good. And if you think for $7, they give a huge basket of fries, think again. It's served on the same small plates you see at Italian restaurants that you get with a bread basket. That portion size is worth $3 at most.
Staff was friendly. Service was average at best.
Willing to give this place another try and my family seems to like it so I know I'll be back. But unless my family suggests we go here, I would not bother to come back on my own volition.
For perspective, we ordered three overstuffed sandwiches, one wrap, and the one order of waffle fries. The wraps are the same size as any other place. Not overstuffed with meat, and not overly large. It was a wrap as you would envision it. The total came to $78. That's A LOT of money for some dry, bland deli meat and a small...
Read moreRye Ridge Deli is a shadow of its former self. The overstuffed sandwiches and nostalgic food items are now poorly prepared, bland, and sandwiches are understuffed with incredibly overstuffed prices! I decided to go with Chicken in a Pot ($27). It used to come with lots of chicken meat and enough matzo ball soup to cure any ailment, with a side of extra hot soup in an actual pot you can ladle into your bowl. What I got was a large bowl of watery chicken stock with some carrots, some egg noodles, a matzo ball, and a bony chicken leg, a bony chicken wing, and small bony chicken breast. It was seriously a joke! When I pointed out to the waiter that there was no chicken meat, he just said "I know. Do you want something else?". Shaking my head I said "yes, please get me an open faced hot turkey rueben on rye." ($18) What came out 10 minutes later was a open faced rueben with maybe 4oz of dry turkey meat, a little bit of sauerkraut, and way too much Swiss cheese (to probably try to hide the dry turkey?). In any case I will not be going back, which is a shame as I have memories going there with my parents many years ago, with servers and kitchen staff who actually cared about the customer. By the way, I have gone here many times over the past 10 years and overlooked the issues at hand. This was certainly the straw that broke the camel's back! Save your money and go somewhere else. There are plenty of deli's around...
Read moreWe went in for dinner yesterday. I ordered a cup of mushroom barley soup and a "House Specialty" - a corned beef sandwich on a square knish. The soup was salty and the mushrooms were from a can. It did have fresh carrots. C-. The sandwich was a D-. The corned beef was very dry and the knish had the taste and texture that can only be acquired after a week of aging. It gets worse. My wife ordered a "Warm Chicken" Oriental "salad". Grade F. It was awful. The chicken was obviously pre-cooked and the bowl was overloaded with broccoli. The rest of the veggies - mostly red and green peppers were grossly overcooked. Even worse, it was more like soup than a salad. There was so much disgusting watery liquid in the bowl that the meager portion of iceberg lettuce was completely drowned and not edible. It gets worse. I called the waiter over and asked him to please send the manager to our table. Without hesitation, he replied to me that the manager was "too busy" and he refused my request. I asked for the bill and went to the register to pay the exorbitant $43.00 bill and asked again for the manager. I told him about the inedible "salad" and his reply was "That's how it comes". He did remove the $16.00 charge at that time. I informed him that the waiter refused to get him and his reply was "I was busy" ...
