EDIT Oct 2025: I think I'm done with this place. The food is still good, the decor is still old and dated - which is ok since it's not a fine dining establishment. But at this last visit the prices went up exponentially (again) and the portion reduced DRASTICALLY. I usually ordered a few of the same dishes from time to time and one of them was their take on a Gyro Pizza. It's just that...a pita with gyro meat, sauce and melted mozzarella. It had always been a generous portion which I was able to finish with some effort (I'm 6'-1", thin and in good shape - I'm not a fat slob). When I ordered it a few days ago, the size was noticeably smaller - I was really surprised when it was served but didn't say anything.... but my wife even noticed and said "what happened to that?" It was almost laughable. It was now on a small pita and served on a little round plate. It used to be about $14 and now was $18 (almost a 30% increase and nearly 1/2 the portion size). These days, people are beaten down and forced to get used to rising prices - but to raise prices considerably AND reduce portions is unacceptable. EDIT Jan 2023: Lost a few stars out of principal because they stopped serving the once-complimentary dish of chick-pea salad during lunch (even though the lunch and dinner menu is the same). How cheap can they be? Probably less than 50 cents worth of chick peas (chick peas are very inexpensive - maybe all in the salad cost them $1.00) Prices went up on every dish but they just had to keep finding places to cut. Such a small item that saves minimal cost results in less desire to go there anymore. Gyros went up $3. Original Review: The best Gyros around. Yes, the place is dated but it's not a place you go for atmosphere. I've eaten there and the service is always very good and friendly, but we take-out most times - they've never gotten an order wrong. Their chick pea salad is better than most other Greek restaurants and the Greek salad is fresh and appealing. We've moved a few miles away and are near another popular Greek restaurant, but we always go back to Akropolis. As others have said, it's a little hole in the wall at the end of a shopping center. You probably would pass right by it if you weren't looking for it. Most times the restaurant is busy but even if it isn't, takeout is...

If you haven't guessed where I'm talking about yet they have something that I like to refer to as crack chicken. I swear they coat this stuff in crack because I can't get enough of it.
The food is only second to the people that own the place. Had a great conversation with Matt as we were leaving I told him that we were so happy with our food.
When we arrive the immediately brought us pita and chickpea salad. The chickpea salad is made with a very light vinaigrette chickpeas and onions. It is very simple but so delicious. The pita is warm out of the oven and cut into quarters and they brought us yogurt sauce to dip in.
My wife had spinach pie and a salad. She was very impressed with the size of the Peace and overall The taste was great.
My daughter went out on a limb and ordered something very unusual for her. She ordered a cheeseburger I have the only child that goes to a Greek restaurant and orders a cheeseburger. She said it was cooked perfectly and love the addition to the fresh tomato and the onion.
My son went even Wilder and decided to order mozzarella sticks. I have never been more embarrassed for my family in my life. Just kidding they order what they order.
I ordered a dish called the happy waiter which was crack chicken with onions and peppers and tomatoes all mixed together.
The best part was it came with a bowl of my favorite soup lemon orzo soup. It has such a great flavor here that it is probably my favorite on long Island for this type soup.
For dessert my kids have ice cream again being daring. My wife ordered a piece of baklava alamode and I ordered another greek dessert which was pretty good. I'm not even going to attempt to pronounce the name of it so I took a picture of the menu and you'll see it begins with a G
Overall everything was fantastic. Our waiter Marcus was accurate and attentive without being overbearing. Obviously we will be back and back often.
Thanks for a great night

Read moreAbsolute Rip off! I sit down and the waiter brings me two different menus. A lunch menu and a dinner menu. I order a simple Gyro ( priced fairly) off the lunch menu and it said comes with a soda, I also order a side of rice pilaf. One thing I can say positive is they give you plenty of food, but what good is it if it all disgusting. The side of rice was so full of grease it was hard to eat and could have fed a family of four. (I was just a single person for dinner) Got a quarter way through my meal and decided not to eat anymore thinking I’m gonna get sick from this crap if I keep eating. Asked for the check, when it came the price was much higher than the prices on the lunch menu. They charged me $4 for a glass of coke, which I was led to believe comes with the meal free. When I questioned the price of the bill I was told “These are the dinner prices” Why would you hand me a lunch and dinner menu when it’s dinner time if you weren’t trying to rip me off. The waiter apologized and offered me a free soda to go…which I didn’t take, I just left, never to return. There are a lot of good Greek restaurants out there ….. this is not...
