Sept. 19th was our wedding anniversary and we made dinner reservations at Aroma Osteria. We asked for a quite spot since the place tends to be very noisy. The manager told us to arrive at 8:30pm and he would have a table for us in a quiet area where a party would be leaving at that time. We arrived and were told the table was not ready and were asked to wait for 10-15 mins. Not a good start. They placed us at a table in another room from that which was promised and the location was so loud we couldn’t hear each other speak. It went downhill from there very rapidly.
The waitress was not very professional and was overwhelmed by her four tables. Our cocktails turned out to be rather insipid— we can make much better cocktails at home. My husband’s fried zucchini blossoms were greasy and he felt insulted that he received only 4 limp flowers for $11 (zucchini flowers grow like crazy and are NOT a rare commodity.) At no point did anyone come over and ask us if we would like a bottle of wine. My strip steak was virtually inedible: I ended up spitting out about 50% of the 12oz. steak since it was nothing but gristle surrounded by a thick band of fat. We’ve eaten strip steaks for decades and not one has ever been as bad as the steak at Aroma Osteria. We were so disappointed and disgusted at this point that we did not—as we usually do—request the manager and make a stink about the situation. It was our anniversary and we didn’t want to sour the mood any more than Aroma Osteria had already done. We just wanted to leave and try to rescue the evening.
The waitress showed up when it was obvious that we had finished; asked how we like our dinner; twice blanked out that I was saying that I DIDN’T LIKE the steak — the pile of chewed and spit out meat on the plate should have alerted the waitress that all was not well. I finally got through to the waitress who then proceeded to argue with me about the steak: no one else complained; that’s the way strip steaks are; no, it’s not because its the end of a busy night and the kitchen just threw whatever they had left on the grill, all the strip steaks are identical (a physiological impossibility), and then, just grinning and racing off with the plate. Not once did she offer to get the manager or offer something to make up for the steak. Nothing. She gives us dessert menus and then gives a little whine when we just ask for the check.
We’ve eaten at Aroma Osteria numerous times over the past 3 years and have not had this problem before. This time was a serious turn off. It was our anniversary and we had hoped for a very special evening. Aroma Osteria destroyed that. We will never return and will never recommend the place to...
Read moreTo call our evening out a disappointment would be a generous understatement. Given that it wasn't significantly busy there were 4 servers floating on top of each other and a manager who hovering around from one table to the next while miraculously forgetting about our existence.
My wife ordered a steak which came out overcooked (well done instead of medium). Initially we waited several minutes for the server to touch our table and ask how things were, it took for us to put the plate LITERALLY at the edge of the table and 15 minutes later for ANYONE to notice the steak was cut down the middle and pushed aside.
My wife and I had to share my entrée which was equally underwhelming. The gnocchi I had ordered was so bland and abysmally disappointing that I had to physically dump salt onto it and ask for pepper. The server seemed almost offended by my request. After forcing half the entrée down I gave up.
A second steak was cooked and was brought out by another server who casually unloaded it upon us and walked off without checking to ensure the temperature was correct. Without hesitation we cut into the steak which to our dismay was once again overcooked. Nonetheless, we struggled through half of it before conceding. It wasn't worth waiting again for a third disappointment.
The service was basically non-existent and our server avoided us most of the evening unless it absolutely glaringly obvious that something was wront. Checking in on your table is a basic concept. If the restaurant had been busy then we would have been more lenient, however there was no excuse for such a pathetic...
