I once read a book called The Kindness of Strangers about a guy who hitchhikes across America entirely dependent on the kindness of strangers. This unassuming food truck parked outside the Jefferson Mall encompasses a generosity of spirit as remarkable as that narrative. It's Pay What You Want. The proprietor explained that people's wallets are tight these days so he feels inclined towards helping people to afford a quality cheese sandwich. Most people can still afford a cheese sandwich, I thought to myself, but i didn't say it. It's much more than that, however. He leaves his cash till open on the counter. As such, a patron is faced with a host of moral choices. You can pay what you think the sandwich is worth or what you can afford; in the alternative you can pay nothing or far below. And lastly, as it was made clear to me by the proprietor, some people take full advantage. They order a bunch of sandwiches at a time and pay nothing and some even steal the cash in the till. In my case, confronted with the spectre of a moral quandary, i paid what I thought was a premium. $30 for two sandwiches, a bottle of water and a sprite.
We ordered the chicken Tikka masala and BBQ chicken cheese sandwiches. They were, of course, the bomb. Gooey, melty, crispy, tasty. Everything you could ever desire from a grilled cheese and more.
What a remarkable food truck. It's nice to see that places like this exist in America even though I think the proprietor must be a little daffy to have such a loosey goosey policy.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLyle and Camila are the epitome of customer service who happen to be in the food service. I donāt want to sound over inflated here because I do have some unique connections to them but even a total new stranger Iām sure would feel the same way. They go out of their way to make great conversation, inform you about their products, and are very interesting people in general. The grilled and other sandwich variants are incredible by the way too š One of my personal favorites is the grilled cheese with macaroni and cheese with bbq and chili mixed together. It holds together and is beyond fantastic. There is not one thing they offer which is mediocre. I happened to try their tomato soup last week and Iām surprised I hadnāt had it before. Perfect 10 pairing with the sandwich and soup. For you vegan or vegetarian eaters, they have NOT excluded you. They will gladly share how and what goes into preparation. If youāre looking for a wonderful lunch, snack, or chill spot, go see them at the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights. They also do events around Westchester but are primarily situated outside Stone Rose in the food truck area. For those very few unfortunate low star ratings, donāt take any stock in those. Some people may have fibbed on here and I have taken note. Iām not a āplantā or rating booster for them. This is my honest opinion of people who deserve to be recognized for what they do. You wonāt be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'll start off by saying that Lyle is an artist with a spatula. I've only ever called one other person an artist with the way they make their food, that being my mother. That praise is not to be taken likely. Lyle's love for what he does shows through in his food. It doesn't feel like you're eating random ingredients tossed together for your money. He genuinely wants you to enjoy what you eat and the fact that he has a "pay what you want" day shows that he isn't doing this to get rich. It's impossible to not appreciate someone so passionate about what he does. He will also often share his crazy stories about his life demonstrating another great trait of his which is his genuine willingness to socialize with people. I'm a natural introvert, but he always engages with me and I end up staying longer than I intended and often forget I even ordered food. This place will always be a favorite place for me and my fiance to go. Everyone we sent here has nothing but positive things to say about it. Thank you, Lyle, for always providing an amazing experience for both of us, we love...
