This place is awesome! My wife and I are visiting from Myrtle Beach, and we decided to have dinner at Chicora for our last night in town. We could not have been more satisfied with our choice. The hostesses were polite and got us a table ahead of our initial wait time. Our server was expeditious, attentive and very accommodating. We overheard him having to skillfully handle some difficult customers he was waiting on at another table, and he still made it very apparent that he cared about our needs. He took extra care not to transfer any of the negativity he was receiving from them onto his attitude or approach with us or his other tables. We had the chips with queso and salsa for a starter. The queso was tasty and stayed liquidy even after it cooled off, and the salsa had a sweet heat taste. For dinner I had the bbq bacon burger with fries, and my wife had the shrimp quesadilla. The burger had just the right amount of barbecue sauce to keep to together without making the bun condiment soggy, several strips of very good tasting bacon, and the patty was grilled to leave just a bit of pink in the middle. The quesadilla had a generous portion of delicious shrimp, spinach and goat cheese, a large dollop of sour cream, and a salad with a great honey mustard dressing on top. We never do dessert, but after seeing how delicious their huge cupcakes looked, we decided to split one. We had the red velvet with cream cheese frosting, and it was done very well. The cake was light and fluffy, while the frosting was heavy and creamy for a very nice contrast of flavor and texture. We were so pleased with the totality of the experience that we left him a tip that we hope made up for some of what he was dealing with from the difficult table, and decided that we will likely revisit Travelers Rest just so we can eat here again. If you enjoy great food and service...
Read moreWe have been to Chicora Alley multiple times for different occasions! My six year old chose here for his date night because he wanted the Mac N cheese bites. We were told it would be a 40 minute wait (obviously busy on a Saturday night at 6 PM), which was expected. We love looking at all the homemade desserts behind the glass. He picked one out to have for after dinner. As we stood there waiting, we watched that cake slowly disappear. It was a mini cake, when we got there, there were 8 cakes. Twenty minutes into our wait there were only two left. We watched a server go behind the glass and grab the tray of beautiful white frosting, vanilla bean cakes. I rushed to meet her, I asked if she was taking the last two, she said no. I explained to her that we were on a date and had been eyeing that dessert. She kindly offered to set it aside with our name on it. Our name was called shortly after (only waiting about 30 minutes). The sweet server who set aside our dessert was our server! We were very happy to get her. We knew everything we wanted so we ordered and she asked about the dessert. I told her she could go ahead and bring it out, my son was so happy to be eating dessert before dinner! She was very good, keeping our cups filled, talking to my son directly, and making sure everything was perfect! Her name was "D" and with my son, being six, he is always asking questions. He wanted to know how she spelled her name and when he asked her, she was very kind and humble. The manager stopped by to check on us (which is always a nice gesture at a restaurant) and I told her how wonderful the evening had been. The food was also great, as always. The servers there make the atmosphere...
Read moreGreat service. Subpar food.
I hate leaving reviews like this. I rarely do, but we spent $85, and I've got a bad taste in my mouth after this experience. We're new to the area and tried Chicora 2 weeks ago and fell in love, so we went back, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the service provided by Jess was exceptional, the food quality fell short of expectations.
I ordered the jerk shrimp salad, hoping for a flavorful and satisfying dish. However, I was disappointed that the salad was not seasoned (zero jerk seasoning on the shrimp) well, and the shrimp were overcooked, resulting in a rubbery texture. Additionally, the portion size was small. I didn't and couldn't even finish the salad.
As for the mile-high nachos, they were a letdown as well. The cheese had congealed, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the dish.
It's worth noting that we visited Chicora Alley Restaurant before when it wasn't busy and were very happy with the food. However, this time, the restaurant was packed, which may have contributed to the difference in quality.
Overall, while we appreciated the efforts of the staff, particularly Jess's excellent service, we left the restaurant feeling disappointed with the subpar food quality. I hope the restaurant can address these issues to ensure a more consistent dining experience for all patrons, regardless of how...
