I REALLY wanted to like Sidewall Pizza. It seemed like a hip, fun place with good pizza. I was excited to go but after being there I can safely say I will not be going back anytime soon. We were seated and I'd say it was 20 minutes at least before our server even greeted us. In fact, we later realized that our server was serving the people next to us (at the same table even!) She brought them dessert, boxed their food and took their check before she even acknowledged us. Then, when she finally did speak to us, she got our appetizer and drinks and then we didn't see her again for what felt like another half hour at least. in fact, another server finally asked us if they could get us anything since we were done with our drinks and food and just sitting there. She then came racing over and took our pizza order and drinks and another long period of time went by. Our pizza came before our beers and I finally was able to get our hostess to get our drinks and she wasn't very polite and seemed annoyed at my asking. The irony is our table was near the bar/kitchen and there were at least 10 servers at any point just kinda hanging out by the bar and kitchen. I can't think of another time I felt so ignored at a restaurant. The food was fair and the drinks were good but after an experience like that I am just not sure we'll go back.
On another note, there is no kids menu either or crayons, etc. We have two tiny ones and had to order an entire cheese pizza just for them and between the two of them they ate one piece. A smaller kids size pizza would be a good idea.
Update: So I reached to the owner via Facebook and he asked me to call him and I did. Seems he wanted to only give excuses and did nothing to try to amend the situation. "My servers are all excellent. They are a reflection of me." So basically he was telling me I made it up?!?!?! Our service was the worst I have experienced in Greenville! Then he proceeded to tell me he didn't know what went on between the server and I?!?! What? Nothing did. I didn't say anything...only left feeling completely treated horribly. Completely felt like he was saying it wasn't his problem, but MY problem. He kept saying over and over how good his servers are.. Okay... Can not say again how terrible this place is. So here goes, we waited 15 minutes for a table, and when we finally got one my kids were cut off on the way to the table by a rude waitress who apparently couldn't spare that extra 3 seconds to let our family walk together.When we got seated, it took another few minutes for our waitress to come get our drink order. My husband was told it was $3 for a glass of sweet tea... $3? Really? The waitress tried to tell us, "well it comes with unlimited refills!" Um, okay, don't all sweet teas at all restaurants have unlimited refills. We could go to McDonald's and get a large tea for $1 with unlimited refills and it would probably taste better. By the time she got back with our drinks we were ready to order, but somehow the moment she set the drinks down she vanished. It was like magic! Not a word, not a "Give me a sec guys and I'll be back to get your order, nothing, just gone. NOT ACCEPTABLE! At this point we finally sat and waited another 10 minutes before we finally walked out and went somewhere else. She simply never came back. We saw her, standing around talking, and at one point she refilled the register tape, but she didn't one time acknowledge us. Not even eye contact, absolutely nothing. Now don't get me wrong they were a bit busy, but keep in mind, I work at one of the busiest locations in Greenville in the evenings, weekends etc. We get insane, to a point of having to get peoples credit cards on file before getting them food Fridays and Saturdays. There is absolutely no excuse for that. If you are in the service industry you need to know that even 2 minutes unacknowledged to a customer is like 20 minutes in there mind. So imagine how an actual 10 minutes feels.Also the manager was very cold towards the guests, no smile, no interaction. Just tells you the wait time and proceeds to stare you down. Recommend the gluten free crust and bread sticks, plus their vegan cheese is legit โ would definitely order again.
The service was atrocious. On three different occasions we had to ask multiple times for basic things like napkins and plates which should have been brought with the bread sticks, crushed red pepper and Parmesan, and a beer that we already ordered.
I get that things happen, but on two rounds of drink orders they didnโt have what we ordered. The waitress for some reason chose to bus my mostly full water from the table that I was still drinking. But this was after she took payment so she was never to be found again.
In retrospect, I realize that we were never shown the bill. Weโre from out of town and bought our friends dinner. The waitress revealed the total as if it was some big shocker, saying that people often forget how expensive drinks are. But she never showed us the bill, and after she ran the CC, I could only see the final total with tax.
Now that Iโm thinking about it, they were out of beverages, and we had to re-order five different drinks. At one point she delivered the drinks for three of us and then she asks my husband โdo you want another beerโ โ he had already ordered it and I swear I watched her put it into the little handheld thing when he did the first time. He asked when she revealed the total, โdo you only have this in there twice,โ but she didnโt look.
While the food was good Iโm not sure our bill really should have been $191 before tip and despite the service we still tipped 20% because people need to live. Hopefully the restaurant reads this and does some staff training to improve...
