The five stars that I have given for the service is specifically for the 4 young people who were running the front. There was a line running out of the restaurant and every table was full. We had been waiting for our food for about 20 minutes (not a problem), when a couple walked in with 3 very young children and the lady went into the kitchen. They ordered their food and she went into the kitchen which is not only unsanitary but confusing as well. The family had ordered well 3 parties after mine but after she went into the kitchen someone walks out and goes "I'm making your food right now and I will bring it to you." Within about five minutes (still not having our food) they had five plates of food in front of them. Not only my party but the parties around us gave each other looks like "who is this lady and why does she get special treatment?" After the kind person at the front brought us our food we asked why they got their food before the parties ahead of them. The person said "she's friends with the owner." This is extremely poor customer service on the owners part. There were paying customers who had been waiting patiently and she walked in there like she owned the place. They should have to wait just like everyone else, that is not how you run a business. Business and friendship needs to be separated especially if "friends" are just allowed to walk into the kitchen whenever they want. The customers are the people who keep this place in business and treating them with disrespect like this and implying that your friends are more important than the multiple parties who probably spent a good amount of money there is insulting and rude. The food is amazing and so is the staff; however, this experience was extremely disappointing...
Read moreStopped in because my son brought me an amazing blueberry lemon scone from here and I wanted to check it out. Nice little place. Handicapped accessible (polished concrete floor, tables with chairs that can be pulled away, no auto door, but someone will open it, easy threshold, handicapped bathroom--slightly blocked by high chairs, but people are nice and would shift them; to be fair, the place is small and those chairs probably just got shoved over without anyone realizing they were blocking the door). I saw a couple of high-chairs so kiddos are welcome. Friendly staff. Limited menu but the items I tried were very good. (London Broil sandwich with side of fruit; chocolate zucchini cake) All baked items looked delicious but there were some odd flavor combos (imho) rosemary shortbread, for example. Wasn't really interested in anything from the beverage menu but I'm kind of picky if I'm going to have a "sit down" tea and this isn't really that kind of place for me. Nice vibes to hang out and chat for a bit or maybe decompress for a while or answer a few emails but not a long-term, comfy armchair, read-a-book kind of place. There was some nice artwork for sale (all by the same artist in different media) on the walls. I hope over time they will expand and vary both the menu and the artists. [Notes: They also do a pre-order dinner take out (haven't tried it yet) and have a Facebook page with more info--just be sure to pick the Trenton location not the Detroit one.] Will definitely go back. Have to try the...
Read moreIt's refreshing to finally have such a beautiful and delicious restaurant such as this in our backyard. Everything is definitely homemade and unique. Simple, yet delicious. I ordered the quiche and french press coffee with chocolate zuchini bread. The quiche was silky and flavorful, the coffee was AMAZING and the bread hit the spot. My husband ordered a blackberry sangria to drink with a turkey, cranberry and brie sandwich alongside coconut chicken soup. He inhaled it.
My only complaint/suggestion is to direct people or place signs directing people how to order. It's very confusing. We didn't know if we had a server take our order or if there was a line to wait in. Then we weren't sure whether to sit after ordering or stand to wait for our food. Simply having a sign above the register saying "order here!" would help. Then having the person taking orders say "please take your number and have a seat for your order" would end the awkwardness and confusion.
Also, it was weird how they served us. Instead of giving us our drinks to have while we wait then plating our entire order to serve to us, we got random pieces of everything over the course of 10 minutes. So while I was halfway done with my food, my husband didn't even have his drink or food.
Altogether, the employees were lovely and the atmosphere was comforting so we didn't mind too much. We will be back. Hopefully the bugs with service will be worked...
