Alfonzo's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Troy

I regret to say that our stay there was quite miserable, and this review will be quite lengthy.

In certain situations, we can look past the bill of $48, however, in this case, there was several problems that unfortunately can not be overlooked.

First off I would like to note that I understand that some rules can not be bent on the terms of tradition or the customer, however the case changes when some things are allowed and others are not. We wanted Alfredo sause on our jumbo pizza, and that was not allowed, even though on the very next page there was a smaller pizza that had the sause on it. So the sause that we wanted could not be placed on the pizza we desired. Fine. We can deal with it.

Second, we were in the mood for a perticular type of vegitable pizza, and strangely, spinage is not a selectable topping on a pizza, even though they had salads that had plenty of spinach in it, they refused to put it on our pizza as well. Fine. We can deal with it and substitute.

Third, when we did get our pizza, the tomatoe paste was bland and needed a bit more salt. This however made the entire pizza taste off, to the point where not even my nine year old daughter wanted to touch it. We ate what we could while keeping quiet at the table listening to the rest of the party that we were with tell stories, only to find that the pizza was not cooked properly in the middle. Were it not for the expensive tab, we would have honestly left the thing behind. We sadly have to microwave it to an editable point.

Fourth, and this was the really disapointing part for me: we were a party of 8 or 9 people, and everyone else was getting their drinks refilled but me and my daughters. She was upset about this, and we had to buy a drink at the gas station accross the street for her becaise she was thirsty after trying to get that pizza taste oit of her mouth.

I wish I could have spoken up in the resturant, but we were keeping quiet for the sake of the other people on our party. Now I suppose I can say what I can by speaking with my wallet, for I can honestly say that we will not be returning to this place.

The salads were good, and the interior is beautiful, however that will not be enough to get us back there.

To the other customers, please take my review at face value, as many factors could have been at play on why our time was miserable there and why things fell the way they did, and perhaps your own stay there could be better then my own. We have lived near Alfonzo's Pizzeria but never went there. We decided tonight was the night. Now we are sad we haven't been here before! What a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant was very busy but after being seated our waitress, Megan, acknowledged us and promised to be right back, and she was! She was prompt, attentive, familiar with the menu items and so very pleasant. My husband and I shared a calzone and each had an antipasta salad. While finishing up, the owner stopped by at our table to ask how things were and thanked us for coming. What a delightful man! We told him about Megan and how much we enjoyed the food. He told us how everything was homemade - and it shows. A few moments after leaving our table, he returned with their popular dessert, Fonzos Zerts - tiny pieces of warm deliciousness tossed in cinnamon & sugar. Well I was not very pleased with this resturant for a bit. However, they did redeem themselves. We called for a take out order a while ago, because we were excited to try Alfonso’s. However, we were shocked when we were informed that it would be an hour long wait for 2 pizzas, which are not difficult items to make with haste on a busy night. This is by far the longest time I have ever waited for a pizza in my life, and is pretty sad to be honest. So service, to put simply, was horrible. However, I was very happy afterwards, because Alfonso’s makes some killer pizza! This is defenitly in my top 10 pizza places in Illinois! The crust was a good crunchiness, the cheese was gooey, and the meat was extremely flavorful. And for once, the pizza isn’t doused in grease!
