I don't often give bad reviews, but this is deserving. I'm a Truck Driver. I stay at a lot of hotels, and eat at a lot of restaurants. That being said... I have stayed at the hotel across the way several times, and this Cracker Barrel is within walking distance.
Past couple times I ordered food to-go, it was mediocre, at best. The cooks who plated the orders didn't seem to care. I made mention last time.
I was willing to give them another shot. I tried to order off their web site, and it was down. So, I tried to call in. A man answered the phone, with a sense of panic in his voice. "Yes, yes, our site is down! We are VERY BUSY!! Can you call back in 20 minutes!!!"
I can see the parking lot from my window. It was half full. "Very busy" indeed. (I'm actually a former Kitchen and Restaurant Manager in NYC... I can show you "busy")
So, I decided to simply walk over, and place the order personally. Must have been around 8:30 pm, and they close at 9:00 pm.
A server is behind the counter, she sees me, then looks at the clock on the computer, and gave a bit of a scoff (yeah, I noticed).
Then, this older gentleman with glasses (whom I found out later by a customer in the parking lot, his name is Dave), didn't give a welcoming vibe, when I asked to place an order to-go, and exclaims "we are closing VERY SOON!" (That's when I realized he was the same guy on the phone). He then scurried to grab a menu. "Do you know what you want?!?" And I said "yes". Before I even opened my mouth again, he shot me a look, like what teenagers do, in a manner as if saying "WELL?!?!".
Rude. Unprofessional. Condescending.
I told him "if you're too busy, with a half empty parking lot, sorry for the inconvenience". Then I spun on my heels, and walked out. I then hear him... "I'm trying to take your order...". Yeah, no thanks. Taco Bell, here I come.
In my old restaurant, if we closed at 9:00 pm, and a guest walked in at 8:59 pm... that guest is being served. Happily. What I would never do, is make the guest feel like an inconvenience.
I will not be visiting this location again.
(This was basically a shortened version of the interaction, but hit...

When I got the bill from the waitress I went to the cashier to pay and it turned out that the bill was for a different but similar table but the bill had already been paid and removed from the system.
It took about another 10 minutes for them to contact the waitress to come to the cashier. It took another 10 minutes to figure out that she lost our bill and just gave us one that she found somewhere for a similar meal that occurred earlier that morning.
35 minutes after a meal to get a proper bill and pay is poor customer service. The waitress looked at me and the cashier as if I was trying to get her in trouble with the manager while all I wanted to do is pay my bill for whatever amount they decided on and get the heck out of there.
I am a retired senior citizen and 6 year Army veteran even wearing my Army veteran hat today at the meal only to be treated with disrespect after receiving substandard service. I thought of Cracker Barrel as somewhere that maintained American values especially for veterans and senior citizens.
I will not be back and cannot recommend this restaurant to friends and family. They even had the nerve to keep asking how much tip I wanted to put on my card. I told them that 35 minutes to pay a restaurant bill does not deserve any tip.
I left the restaurant while my wife shopped in the store and when she came out she told me that she gave them a gift card and her item and they still charged her full price. My wife said why didn't you take off the gift card and the cashier said what gift card. My wife argued with her then the cashier realized she set the gift card down while talking to a coworker and forgot about it. After finding the gift card behind the counter the cashier charged the correct amount after deducting it...
Read morethere were five of us and we all enjoyed our food and the waitress did a fine job-unfortunately, the problem came up when we went to pay-not sure of all the finer details, but my brother's wife had something on her phone showing that she was supposed to get a free dessert-she showed it to our waitress, and she said it was ok and gave her a sales slip to show when we left and paid for the meal-that said, however, after the cashier totaled the bill and told her how much she owed, she looked at the slip and told him that the one slip she turned in was supposed to show that she got a free dessert-she asked him if he could just redo it, and he said he couldn't-i wasn't there for all of it, but she said that two managers came over and both said the same thing-needless to say, they were very upset, as were all of us-there's just no way to spin it-it was crooked and a ripoff-we have been going to cracker barrel for years, and it has always been one of our favorite places, but if this is the kind of treatment we will be facing in the future, we will pass on dining there in the future-possibly, someone there at the company will do the honest and honorable thing and reimburse them-i believe it was $6-it's not the amount of money, of course-it's the principal of it all-dishonesty is not a favorite of ours, nor is that kind of treatment-i hope that someone there will make this right, so that we can continue to greatly enjoy our experiences there again, but if not, we won't subject ourselves to more dishonesty-i've tried to be as nice about this as possible, but it's just plain not right-they didn't enjoy being treated like fools-thank you for taking the time...
