I don't leave a lot of reviews...but this place made a very strong impression. TLDR: The people, food, and prices are fantastic, and you need to go there.
After a 14 hour day moving a family member, we were looking for someplace to to eat that did give you a crown if you went there. We stumbled accross this gem, and it it was a gift from heaven! To start, the service was super friendly! I later found out she was an owner, but our drinks never got below half empty. 2 at our table had ordered an unlimited flounder special, and she would ask HOW MANY FISH they wanted each time, instead of just bringing one or two pieces at a time like most places would. They never were waiting on fish!
The food was delicious! BBQ and fish fry are exactly what I want! And I was told their house ranch was some of the best ranch my wife had ever had! Also, there homemade cakes are delicious...you won't regret a slice! As we were leaving, they were also kind enough to let us buy one of their coffee mugs to have as a keepsake our our visit, even though they aren't normally for sale. Did I mention how incredibly reasonable the prices were? 3 hungry adults were able to eat their fill for less than it would have cost at the way of the sub accross the street.
Its an hour away, but we will DEFINITELY be back. We'll plan a trip to Morrow mountain as an excuse if...
Read moreI consider Hometown BBQ the best food in Troy. Good people of Southern Pride. Nobody is perfect, so if something isn't right, then speak up and they'll make it right. Hospitality is a virtue here, so even the cooks will do extra things when they can, and they have a tip jar too. I've tried a lot of food from their large menu of selections, plus written lunch specials, and everything is always great to me. I can't find any bad food there. I don't know how they're doing it, but the prices are still more reasonable than other family restaurants. The building is old, but everything is clean, including the bathrooms. The Sunroom Windows could use a handyman, but the old design is flawed and that's not their fault. I'm not exactly sure what their building arrangement is (lease?), but I would push for remodeling those Sunroom Windows. I noticed some of the wood needs replacing anyway, so might as well fix the windows too. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm sure newbies passing through look at them and go, "Ewww", LOL, but I want to assure folks that's only an eyesore, and NOT any indication of being a filthy place, okay?...
Read moreThis is a small town staple in Troy NC. Food is home cooked southern food for the most part. Great value, and I mean great value. Typically I purchase 2 meals consisting of a meat/2 sides/dessert and typically just 1 jumbo sized drink for 1 person and can walk out of there spending generally less than $22 including tip. It will also depend on how much you order of course but the amounts of food are decent, good and served with a southern smile. The tea is definitely sweet so if you prefer it toned down add a little unsweetened to the order. But the sweet is the best!
Desserts are also homemade, they gave daily specials and often run out of dishes that are popular. There is a all you can eat fried fish night (I don’t eat fish but hear it is good). And if course a great deal like every other thing in the menu. Go check out this unsung / off the beaten path spot. They are open very early but closed in Sundays and I think Mondays. They deserve the couple of days off these people work hard to bring good and great value food to...
