I had to edit my review from 5 stars to 2 stars. To keep it brief: I waited a long time for a small order while it wasn't busy. The staff was abysmally disinterested, no hustle, and unpleasant. The food is good. Not great. My 1 pound pulled chicken had a few drops of bbq sauce. When I asked for extra bbq sauce sides, they asked how many, I said 2, and they said 50c each. I left without the sauce. They forgot to add the caramel sauce with the bread pudding (the man who took my order specified that it came with a side of caramel sauce) Last note- last year sometime, while waiting for my order, I strolled around the back of the restaurant to see what type of smoker they are working with. I got chased away by the owner. You dont ever see that guy around his restaurant any more. Sorry to say, but I don't think I can come back
I got take out and the brisket was pretty good (wanted more bark tho) and the pulled chicken was A+ Mac n cheese actually quite good House beans great as well! Most BBQ places have horrible sides (Hoodoo lookin at yoo) so Drew B Q really has a great menu and Im eager to try other sides next time!
The chili honestly ranks among the best chilis I have ever had, after three spoonfuls I can say top 3 maybe?!
House sauces: memphis seemed way too .... unpleasant at first, too vinegary, but I found myself going back to it again and again. Smoky BBQ yummy
Wondering if the sauces are homemade
Thanks for a great dinner chef!
Edit: since this original review, I have had DrewbaQ 5 times, somehow getting tastier each time. The memphis and sweet bbq sauces are sooo good! The pulled chicken, brisket, mac, beans, and 2-4 cornbread pieces per person are highly suggested! DrewbaQ is definitely better than Hoo Doo Brown (sorry pit boss) imo. DrewBaQ is the best BBQ food in...
Read moreMy first time at the Shack was 8 months ago. It was love at first site. Compare to a lot of Bar-B-Q joints this DrewBaQ Shack definitely deserves numerous Gold Medals! The first medal, which is the most important to me, is hospitality, customer service and above all undivided attention. With that being said I knew after a moment that the food here is going to be okay. It wasn't just okay, it IS OUTSTANDING. Lots of reviewers never mention the desserts DrewBaQ has to offer. Cheesecake, carmelized Brownies with bacon(OTW. out of this world) chocolate pecan pie, bread pudding and cookies. I have eaten all of them in one sitting. Irresistible. It's worth driving there just for dessert! Meats that melt in your mouth, sides that cannot be beat, like their Iconic baked beans, Mac and Cheese, Cole slaw and of course CORNBREAD! ALL OUTSTANDING! 8 months ago I loved this place. Today my love has grown. Forget Wilson's of Fairfield(they're gone) Bobby Q's and Cue of Norwalk are not consistent at all and consistency is what makes a restaurant GREAT! DrewBaQ is a MUST EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE WHO LOVES Bar-B-Q. I only have one complaint about DREWBAQ and it saddens me Greatly...............I live to dam far away to to get to DrewBaQ as often as I would if I lived next...
Read moreIt's super bowl Sunday. Just got home to eat what my wife and I ordered. Brisket, Mac and cheese, fries.
Hard to explain what's going on here... here's my best description of the food though.
-Brisket, very briney/corned flavor. Not smoked thoroughly, or at all? No bark either, just a little crisp from bbq basting under a broil. Store bought bbq sauce (we think?) However, very tender and juicy. Not a "smoke house" flavor though, which is what you'd expect.
Mac and cheese.. I'll quote my 5 year old daughter... "It's just like the one at school!" She loved it lol. My wife and I not so much. It's the same flavor profile as a longhorn, chili's, outback. Plain, manufactured.
Fries. Ended up going out to the racoons in the backyard, no joke. Again, store bought variety and I've worked in enough restaurants to know the smell and taste of 2-3 week old fry oil. Yuck.
The reception over the phone, and in person was very pleasant though. Employees get an A+.
Not worth my $45+ dollars. Bummed out. Haven't had BBQ in a while, and this place was close. Might try again?...
