A very disappointing and unpleasant experience. I have been to the Eclectic Cafe in the past and had an unforgettable entre from their seasonal menu. I wanted to go back to have it again. I looked up their website and sure enough, there on the top of the seasonal menu was Reuben Chimis. I called my mother and sister and we went to the cafe around 3:30pm. When we sat down we noticed that the seasonal menu on the table was different than on their website. No Reuben Chimis. But we also noticed that all the ingredients listed for the Reuben Chimis were also present in other entre descriptions. So we hoped the chef would be able to make it, even though it was not on the menu. When the waiter came I asked about the Reuben Chimis. He said that was a very old entre and they don’t serve it anymore. I mentioned that it is still listed on their website. He said you can find anything on the internet, that doesn’t mean it’s current and he asked where I found it. I said it’s on your current website, EclecticCafeTucson. I said they must not update it regularly, and I showed him on my phone. He said that is an old website and isn’t their current address. He said their current address has a dash in the name, Eclectic-Cafe. I said if they aren’t using the old address anymore, they should take it down so it isn’t confusing to customers. Obviously clueless about the internet, he told me that nothing can be removed from the internet. Once something is on the internet it is always there. He said you can find 30 year old menus on the internet and that there is no way to remove the old website. At that point I knew it was pointless to continue a conversation about the internet with this waiter. So I asked if it was possible to get the Reuben Chimis. He said no. He didn’t ask the chef or anyone else. He just said no. I ordered a different entre. It was edible, but not what I was hoping. On the way out I picked up a business card from the counter. And there at the bottom of the card was listed the “old no longer used website” EclecticCafeTucson. So, either the cafe is handing out cards with an old abandoned website listed, or the waiter didn’t know what he was talking about. I expect the latter. The overall experience was disappointing and unpleasant. The low rating is mainly due to the out dated info on their website and the unpersonable waiter. Tips for visitors: Tip1: Don’t select your entre in advance from their website, since they don’t serve what is listed on their website. Tip2: If you see a tall dark haired waiter with large black rim glasses, ask for a...
Read moreNot compelled to return to this restaurant. We came about 40 minutes before close without realizing it. It clicked once we noticed the waitstaff giving us the stinkeye. For the record, we left five minutes before close.
We first chose the patio but were told we couldn't sit there by someone identified as the owner and/or manager due to it being later at night. She was pleasant. We went inside. It felt overwhelmingly close together, and the appearance inside the restaurant was lacking. It definitely has a diner feel to it. If I ever did go back, I would go during a time when I could dine outside.
The food was unspectacular. They have a huge menu, which seems to often be correlated with a bunch of mediocre dishes, as opposed to a small menu with a handful of incredible dishes. I had the chicken crepes, which was a unique dish, and unfortunately, not really unique in a good way. It wasn't great and wasn't terrible.
The service, possibly for the aforementioned reason, seemed rushed and annoyed. I've worked in restaurants before - if you don't want to work nights, you don't get into the business. The attitude seemed excessive to me. We did in fact apologize for coming near close (despite it being accidental), not that I felt sorry for doing so, especially not 40 minutes before.
We left without ordering dessert. I probably would not return unless I heard really good things about the food because, with lacking service and ambiance, I can't think of another...
Read moreIt was my 1st time and the food was amazing!!! Definitely give it up to the cooks who definitely make their food top tier. I just have a suggestion for the server with glasses, for him to slow it down. I was not understanding the menu, I wanted the stuff avocado salad I saw on the Google photos but I pointed to the sandwich and instead of pointing it on the menu he just took the order of the salad... I wish he would have further explained and shared where it is on the menu because I would have read it included eggs, then I could have explained to him that I was allergic to eggs and did not need that on my plate. But other than that he was very attentive. Also idk how the cooks did it but nailed it on the sweet potatoes absolutely delicious.. and whoever makes the lil sourdoughs fantastic! I do have a suggestion is there anyway for the utensil setting and bagging setup be somewhere else, when there is no music, all you here is the clunking from the man standing behind which isn't very pleasing when you are trying to have a peaceful meal... I see that has been an issue is a lot of other comments people have posted. Maybe can put up a divider wall or something.... Or maybe just turn on some music to mask the obnoxious noises from that area. Either way the food, wow!!!! Props to the cooks for an amazing...
