I don’t normally complain about restaurants but my experience this morning made me frustrated. I am writing this review in hopes that management reads these reviews so that no one else will have the same experience that my sister and I had. I don’t know if this was just an off day for the staff at the location on Speedway. The restaurant did appear to be short staffed.
This is the first time I have left a restaurant hungry. First Watch has been my favorite breakfast restaurant for years. My sister and I always split a Farmhouse Hash and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time except for this morning when we went for breakfast. The presentation of dish has been changed and what goes with it. In the past, the hash was served in a heat proof dish that had bacon, fried potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, grilled onions, eggs, avocado, and cheese. It came with a small dish of fresh fruit, a slice of buttered toast and some kind of jam. We always order it with egg whites. Such a delicious combination of ingredients! The dish is now served in a bowl with the slice of buttered toast served on a coffee saucer. A small side of fruit is no longer served with it. Both my sister and I thought at first that the server had ordered the wrong dish. The ingredients in the dish were skimpy!!! There was very little bacon, (we had to search to make sure there was bacon in it) and if there was cheese in the dish, it wasn’t enough to taste. There were more potatoes than anything else and they were incredibly salty. The dish did not look very appetizing. Some of the onions had been burned. My sister ordered more bacon to make up for what should have been in the bowl and a side of egg whites. Neither one of us could eat the salty potatoes and most of the dish was the potatoes. The server who brought us the side of eggs and bacon was nice and when I complained about the food , she offered to have the manager stop by. The manager stopped by and was friendly. I explained my complaints about this dish we have been eating for years at this particular restaurant. She told us that the ingredients in this dish are proportioned out and the potatoes are pre-salted. Someone probably got a little heavy handed. If the ingredients are proportioned out, whoever is in charge has cut back on the amount in the dish. She offered to get us something else and I told her no thank you that I would go home and eat breakfast. I was too upset to eat and had lost my appetite. I don’t think the cooks could have redone our dish because the potatoes were pre-salted. She did discount our bill so we were charged $16.00 instead of $26.00. Most of the dish was left uneaten. We basically ate egg whites and my sister ate bacon with hers. On a good note, the ice tea is still delicious. The next time I go to First Watch, it will not be at the location on Speedway. I will go to another location and order the Farmhouse Hash and see if it is better. If this dish is the same at the other locations, they will have lost two...
Read moreBreakfast or lunch? Both please! First Watch Cafe has been a go to breakfast spot for my husband and I for some time now. Especially after the gym. The Avocado Toast is delicious. The Tri Athlete is a great choice too. Don't forget the Chia seed pudding for a sweet and healthy choice! The list goes on. Neither of us has had everything on the breakfast menu but the choices we have made have all been....delicious. It's that farmhouse fresh and healthy aspect of breakfast. Its a modern and airy atmosphere but you feel comfortable. So, just yesterday, my husband and I decided to try lunch at First Watch. We knew that breakfast was good and it was a little later in the day, so why not try lunch. We will definitely be returning and most likely soon. Now, we can't speak of many of the items on the lunch menu since we have only been once. However, the two sandwiches we had we very good indeed! My husband had the Grilled Roastbeef and Havarti and I had the Club. The sandwiches come with a side of soup or tossed/dressed greens. We both chose a side of soup - my husband chose the tomato basil and I opted for the chicken and white bean. The soups had great flavor. The chicken and white bean, in all honesty, could have had a few more beans and some more chicken. Nonetheless, they were both very good! The staff is always very friendly and the service is prompt. The waiter/waitress check on you but it is not to the point where you feel that maybe they should pull up a chair and join you. As a disclaimer, I will add that the toast on my sandwich that is darker in color is the toast from my husband's sandwich. I had to taste it since there was parmesan cheese toasted on his bread. I hope you take the time to try First Watch for breakfast or...
Read moreI'm giving this 3 stars but I think that they could earn more. First of all the food was good. That's the most important thing. I also like that the plate was large and the portion fit very nicely on the plate. I know that's a small thing but I don't like when my plate is so small I have to work to keep the food from falling off. I had a Chickenchanga, a signature dish which was basically an omelette with a breast of chicken cooked into it. All in all, I was very happy with my food. The bad part of our visit was the service. That's why I say they could earn more. The service could be fixed. When we arrived we were told it would be a 20 minute wait. They took our number so that they could text us when our table was ready. We got that text and when we went up to the hostess she didn't know what we were talking about. She told us there was a mix up and said we would be next. We went and sat down and watched as they continued to seat people. Finally, we went to her again and found that she had lost our name. We were then seated immediately, after a 45 minute wait. If that wasn't bad enough, our booth was right next to a window overlooking the patio which had 5 empty tables. Yet they still had a bunch of people waiting to be seated, just like we had to. Very frustrating. Clearly, someone was not running things very well. We will probably try again, one more time, just to give them a second chance. Only because the...
