MOD Pizza — Restaurant in Tucson

I have traditionally been very happy with Mod Pizza, but recently this location appears to be having problems with honesty and integrity. My last visit has clinched things for me. I arrived 15 minutes prior to close last Saturday after verifying hours prior to leaving my house (25 minute drive away) only to find the doors closed and locked.

Inside there were many people dining as well as people dining on the patio and several waiting in line to order. I got the attention of one of the employees who attempted to tell me from behind the counter that they were closed for the night indicating it was after hours. I insisted on someone coming to the door to speak to me and after a few minutes a manager came to the door to inform me that they closed at 10:30pm.

It was 10:48pm at that the time I was told that they closed at 10:30pm. I pointed to the sign on the door that listed hours as closing at 11:00 and the manager then said, that really the reason they locked the door was because they were out of food. I then asked what they were going to tell the 6 or 7 people in line and he shook his head and slammed the door in my face and returned to work the counter.

I really have a problem with being lied to and general integrity issues. It was very apparent that the staff appeared to be upset that they would be leaving later than normal (This location is normally quiet on a Saturday night) and so had resorted to closing and locking the doors early. I'm EXTREMELY disappointed and angry. I placed an order on the 27th. It was for a GLUTEN FREE lunch special. We picked it up, as it was a curbside pick up, and got home. My daughter noticed her pizza was more burned than she expected so that's why she thought it looked a bit different. She ate her lunch.... and 20 min later her abdomen was in severe cramps and pain. She was sick for just over 24 house because it WASN'T gluten free as we ordered and she has celiac disease. I tried calling your store but the capitan was not available. I asked for a call back and NO ONE returned my call or refunded my order. I tried customer relations on the 3rd and got an email that they would call me at my convenience if I emailed them times. I offered that day at a certain time or anytime on Wed or Thurs. They called at the end of the day Thurs without emailing me in advance so I didn't answer the phone since I didn't recognizethe number. They stated they would call Friday. Of course, they did not. I'm incredibly angry that my call was not taken seriously enough to warrant serious follow up due to their negligence. My daughter will likely not order from your locations again for a long time. I just tried Mod Pizza for the first time in the nearly five years I've lived in the Vail area. I happened to meet a friend here to try out the restaurant. I had read the reviews with mixed results, and I think I understand some of the lower ranked reviews- I largely believe the negative reviews were by people who weren't particularly analytical about what they observed.

My impressions on this single visit is that this place is very well run by staff that are very helpful, friendly, and patient with a customer who is brand new to the Mod Pizza experience. Being able to select from a wide variety of vegetables, meat, sauces, cheeses, and seasonings was both fun and tantalizing! The crust I selected is a thin, New York style crust in 11" width. The staff placed a metal number tag associated with my name. The pizza was ready in less than ten minutes after I chose the ingredients. Seating is comfortable and the dining facilities were clean and well maintained. While the restaurant is of modern industrial theme, it was much more comfortable and welcoming than I had anticipated. Definitely a very pleasurable experience!
