Having grown up in Tucson and alumni to Sahuaro HS I was super excited to see this joint still in business almost 20 years after moving out of state. So for Christmas Eve we ordered a Family pie (with toppings) and then 2 slices of just cheese to be picked up that evening around 6:30 (30 mins before closing). When I arrived, the girl at the desk was incredibly rude. Who knows what she's going through and I'm sure it's a bummer to have to work on Christmas Eve but why be rude? As I walked up to the counter she shouted to one of the ladies in the kitchen "when do we cut off taking orders?!" the gal (obviously irritated) shouted "5min til close". She rolled her eyes, and looked at me "yeah?"...wow...she had trouble locating my order and when she did, the two (additional) slices were missing from the order. When I asked about them she said "well we don't have any"...I was suprised to hear this and asked if there was anything that could be done to remedy this situation. In a sneer she said "well we could make you some but it'll be like 30-40 minutes" (the family pie that we'd ordered was all ready to go and would totally be cold if I'd waited for the two slices)...I said "no, it's fine, we'll just take the family pie but I believe I was charged for the two slices so can we just refund those?" She said no and that they weren't on the order. ... sigh
Look, you have a customer who chooses your establishment for Christmas Eve dinner. Make it a good experience or maybe consider being closed that day so your employees aren't jerks to your customers.
PS I was charged for those two slices.
Just for the record, to be fair...the pizza was just as I'd remembered (with the exception of the toppings...I always just...

She had a single slice of sausage pizza and I ordered two plain cheese slices. After 30 minutes we were given the garlic bread that was burnt beyond recognition. Realizing their own mistake within five minutes they brought a fresh bread that was cooked properly. The young lady then explained that they made a mistake on my cheese slices so they had to remake them but the sausage would be out soon. My wife's did show up a few minutes later. In the meantime several other patrons had come in after us, placed an order, and was served their pizza while I still waited. 55 minutes after arriving I was finally served my slices. I then asked for a refill on my soda since I had already drank it waiting for an hour. The young man behind the register told me it would cost me$.75. I laughed at first thinking he was joking since they had screwed up my order. Unfortunately he was dead serious. Decided to just take the slices home since my wife had already finished her dinner at this point. I returned to the counter and asked for a to go box for my slices. He offered me a little styrofoam box that would not fit the big slices of pizza so I asked for a large one and again he told me that I had to pay extra for the proper size box. Pay extra when they messed up my order twice causing us to be there over an hour and a half is absolutely absurd. I hope the owner of the establishment takes a good hard look at how their employees are handling the customers because at this rate they won't...
Read moreI've been a regular at New York Pizza for over 30 years. East Side Local & Sahuaro High Grad. I've never ordered a pie though. Always there for slices. Lunch special. Honestly, it was a shock seeing the 'new' place. Times they will always be changing. They made all the right changes. The place looks really good. Very clean with much needed updating. New flooring, clean bathroom, new large TV's, air conditioning!!, fresh paint. The ceilings no longer look nasty. I do kind of miss the picnic tables though. Overall, great job as far as I'm concerned. Oh and the pizza...... there's that. The pizza is as good, if not better, than I've ever had. I guess they've made a few changes in recipe. That's to be expected. But they're moving more towards fresh ingredients so that's a good thing. We came in for late lunch, about 3pm. The guy at the counter was really cool and offered us slices that were done and ready now, or fresh slices that were ready in 20 mins. We weren't in a rush, so we opted to wait for fresh pizza. He was even nice enough to bring our slices to our table, instead of us coming up to the counter. And they were ready fast! Our slices were delicious, and I thought the crust seemed a little more full, which l liked. They're putting all the extras, parmeson, garlic, peppers, on the tables now, which is a good idea. So you no longer have to dress your slice at the counter or take jars to your table. Yuck. There's no more draft beer. Which is still ok for me because they have a larger selection of bottles. All in all, I'm really happy with the new look. Keep up the good work!...
