Finally, I had a chance to visit right when they opened. It's very big inside the restaurant, lots of tables and space. There's a few flat screens spread out as well, and they have an outside patio for big parties.
Right when you walk in, you can see the menu up above you. Very basic menu with simple options and ways to customize your order. You can order items a la carte or in a combo that comes with a drink.
Since I wanted to try a few different items, I ordered a la cart, and for $5-6 a taco, I didn't mind. I started with a chicken taco and a shrimp taco, both wrapped in corn tortillas, which, by the way, did not taste like cheap corn tortillas. Some places I have been to use a corn tortilla that tastes waxy or likes it's fake. These were not.
The chicken taco had some good cuts of flavored meat inside. There is a salsa bar you can visit and pick from a variety of sauces and flavors, but I enjoyed the chicken as it was. Eventually, I added some guacamole.sauce to it to give it a chicken flauta-like flavor. For what you pay at places like Taco Bell and such for a chicken taco, I felt it was money well spent here.
The shrimp taco is served with a vegetable mix that's looks like salsa, but it's not. It had a different flavor to it. I don't remember the exact number of shrimp that were in it, but I know I had about 6 shrimp or more. And as is with corn tortillas, after a while, it fell apart from the shrimp and veggies mix, but again, I did not mind.
Now my friend had gotten a fish taco that looked so good that I had to have one while he tried the shrimp taco. As you can see, they provided a big piece of fish, and it was hanging out the corn tortilla. It had enough flavor for me, but you might want to try it with some of the sauces they have. A little shot of lime did me well.
For a first-time visit we really enjoyed ourselves. Customers were coming for catering orders, and around lunchtime, the place was filling up with customers, so that was our cue.
Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves for a first-time time visit and plan on returning. They are also available on Doordash for when we can't make a visit. For what you pay for fast food, why not stop in, get better quality ingredients, enjoy a calm, quiet atmosphere with good service, or pick up and enjoy in...
Read moreWe arrived here at about 10:30. They close at 11:00, so our plan was to quickly grab some tacos and eat in the dining room to take advantage of the salsa bar and be gone by closing time. This was our first time there, so we were excited to try it. The good news is that the food was all in all pretty good. The tortillas are freshly made using a press and a grill and the food did come out pretty quickly. However, the service was really bad. The person that greeted us and took our order informed us that they were out of most of the menu, since it was close to closing time. We ordered five tacos and some guacamole and went to find a seat. Being greeted that way, we felt rushed from the outset. My wife got us some salsa and I got us waters to drink. Since we got guacamole, we also got some chips to go with it. When my wife, asked for a bag, which we knew we would need to take our food home given how close it was to their closing time, the person at the counter implied she didn’t want to give it to her, saying we were going to steal chips with it. This left us pretty speechless. My wife let the person at the counter know that this sort of accusation didn’t make her feel welcome. Our good arrived and, as stated, wasn’t bad. Some of the salsas we tried were good, some were not anything special. At about 10:50, staff came out and started picking up all of the salsas. We were sitting there, eating, but that didn’t stop them. At about 10:58, they turned out the lights over the tables! We were really surprised they would do that. Even though we hadn’t finished our meal, it was obvious they didn’t want us there. We packed up our stuff hastily and left to finish our food at home. What a horrible first experience! The food in no way made up for the bad service. We won’t be back and suggest anyone interested in later in the evening Mexican food try one of the many local drive through places open 24 hours and reliably serving...
Read moreMy daughter-in-law told me Taco Tote means “Big Taco”. And these tacos are big with lots of meat. Anywhere else I would be inclined to order three or four, but unless you’re a growing teenager it’s too much! I ordered three (Carne Asada, Pollo Adodabo, Fish) and was satiated after the second taco. The quality of the meats are noteworthy; the sirloin/asada was amazing… lean, tender, delicious. And check out the fish in the photo. Best tacos I’ve had in a while.
The tacos come plain on either corn or flour tortillas, wrapped in foil. You fix ‘em your way from their salad/salsa bar. I usually just do cilantro & onion and add any of the different salsas.
The waitstaff are friendly & helpful. All in all a great place to get tasty tacos.
A few critical points to mention: • The store is reasonably clean, at the tables & salsa bar where it matters. However, their windows could use a good interior cleaning. Little greasy hands have left more than a few smudges on several of the windows. Also, they need to vacuum their window sills occasionally… notice the dead insects in the photo.
• On one night (April 1, 2024) when it was raining, we stopped in for a quick bite. They were apparently having an issue with los baños, as the antiseptic odor was overwhelming when we first walked in — we both lost our appetites and walked right back out — maybe it was meant as an April Fool’s joke, but it was nauseating. On today’s visit as you approached the restrooms you could still smell that antiseptic odor — not as strong as before, but still unpleasant as it’s right by the area where you place your order.
• They need to do something about their signage in the front. Looks like some vehicle lost control and slammed into it. It makes one wonder whether the property is...
