Update (7/17/2025): I am so thankful to see a security company monitoring the parking lot! I think the guard had a patch on his vest named Arizona Security? In Bookmans, there are still good affordable items to be found in Bookmans! $7 for a hand painted vintage Indigenous American seed pot is not bad. They have a lot of beautiful gemstones and collectable rocks. I really didn't like seeing bookmans selling a turtle shell rattle. Is that legal in Arizona? I only wish this location had more seating for shoppers like they did years ago. I only saw one table. If you cant find the type of book you are looking for then go up front and take picture of the map on display. I ran out of time looking around.

have to add a star because I finally got to see Mr. Capt. Goof smile and be friendly. Makes a world of difference to see him being positive and hopefully more of his coworkers decide to do the same. Smiles are worth more than gold stars these days.

Update: (1/20/2025) Since my last review I have visited Bookman's many times and noticed the staff members are much more kind and approachable when I'm needing help. However, I have not returned to the trade counter, since my previous post, because of my original experience still haunts me to this day.

I will tell people to look at the collectable Semi-Precious Raw stones and jewelry more closely before buying. I will have to return an item I bought two days ago because the small chain is almost torn at the catch. Three times previously, I have noticed bad damage to catches/chains, chips on crystals/beads after my purchase.

Before I buy an item, next time, I will have to take a picture of the item and use my camera to inspect the photo of it while in store. If interested in buying an item in a case, it will get held behind the register counter and I can tell the employee if I want to proceed with purchase of said item at time of payment and if needed inform them of any damage found.

Most Saturdays at Bookmans are busy and it's very nice to see animal rescues allowed to introduce their mission or goals to the general public and bring awareness to animal welfare. Thank you Bookmans for giving non-profits a place for outreach and connection.

You never know what you're going to find or who you will meet here. I have been going here for years without much problem until recently. I brought in a few pieces of sterling jewelry and they required my drivers license to fill out a pawn slip and I had to sign it. Of course that came with unneciessary nasty looks of judgement from the employee towards me in the process.

I did come back since then, thinking I would give them another chance, and brought more items but all they were interested in was a pair of bluejeans and a custom made dirk knife with antler handle and sheath. They never required my ID for that though. Haha.

On a different occasion I bought a book, about Native American history, and at checkout was treated coldly by an employee with tag labeled "Captain goof" on it. This guy has been here for months. Never smiles. I heard him say as I left with my book "I hate cultural appropriators." Reading about other cultures is now cultural appropriation? Wow. I cant imagine how he treats other female customers.

I have encountered other angry customers both in the store and parking lot. It seems that some employees have lost respect for customers but at least they still allow pets. There is also a large FoodBank donation box near the magazines for those who want to donate canned...

Had a very terrible experience selling things and asking for directions/about products

When I was selling things here the man at the counter was very dismissive of me, half the time I would say something or ask a question and get no response or just a "I don't know", maybe he was truly having a bad day but I was not trying to make his day worse and tried my best to just make things easy but in return I was just met with a very cold attitude.

While I was waiting for my items to be looked over for selling, I had a hard time finding smaller sections like the multiple labels and shelves in the CDs/DVDS, When I asked for help from a employee, he simply just pointed in a direction without a word and walked off, I was left more confused than I was before. I talked to a nicer woman at the counter by the games and she was able to direct me much better and I found the right section.

I did ask about specific things and was told there is no inventory kept? I understand it would be hard to put every single thing in the system that they get but if i am trying to find a CD/DVD/Book and I want to find it quickly would it not be easier to look it up on a computer and keep record of what they have/Do not have?

I have sold/bought at bookmans before and it was the one not as far down speedway, there I was treated way better, when I was selling stuff I felt comfortable and not like I was being a bother. The employees asked me if I was looking for something or if i needed help as well through out the store and through out my time I spent at that location, but here I left almost crying because of how I was treated and how...

Bookman's is by far my favorite store in all of Arizona. They have something for everyone, unless you are no fun or hard to please! I have literally been visiting Bookmans locations for over 20 years. As an avid trader and value based shopper, Bookmans is my Shangri-La! Rare is the trip to any location where I don't come across the next gem for my collection.

Almost without exception, all the employees you interact with are helpful & and knowledgeable. I want to give specific kudos to Danielle Byers, Gallery Supervisor. When I was last at Bookman's East, Danielle became aware of a less than satisfactory incident that had taken place. She was kind enough to ask more about the situation, express regret and apologize, and then go out of her way to make it right despite the fact she was at the end of her shift.

Because of employees like Danielle, and all the fun stuff Bookman's always has an abundance of, I will continue to be huge fan and promoter of Bookman's. Anytime Inhave guest from out of state come to town, I always try to bring them to a store. They always say how lucky we are to have such a fun store with so much variety in the community.

Thank you Bookman's! Here is to another 20+ years of fun shopping...

I enjoyed my visit to Bookman's. My partner and I went a little bit after we moved to Tucson. This is the biggest book store I have ever been in in my life. I'm a book lover. I love the smell of them. I love just seeing them on the shelves. It gives me life and to be surrounded by thousands of books was an amazing experience. There was books in all genres. I walked through every section looking at titles and flipping through some pages. I loved the ambiance. There were comfy chairs throughout where you can sit and enjoy a book if you'd like. What I also loved was the decorations. There was all types of scenes, musical instruments, cartoons etc that would make any adult to be a kid again. I thought that was a very nice touch. You could come here just to see the decorated scenes throughout the store. Bookman's has lots of used books to choose from, but keep in mind they don't have every book in the world. This store is big, but not that big. They even have a children's section that any child would love. This store was wheelchair accessible as the aisles are wide to accommodate. There's a nice big shared parking lot out front which includes handicapped parking spaces. This is definitely the place for book lovers. #Tonetta
