I grew up 1 mile south on Garnett from Asian Cuisine. Growing up, I recall somewhat frequent visits when they had a buffet. It has likely been 25 years since I've been back. My wife and I enjoy restaurants that offer traditional Chinese dishes. When searching Google Maps, a familiar name popped up, and upon seeing pictures of their food and menu, we knew we needed to check them out.
The place is pretty dated but not in shambles. We waited near the door for about 5 minutes before a server came out from the back. Our waitress was a little slow getting around. Luckily, we needed a little time thumbing through the larger than average menu. As stated, we love traditional Chinese food, but if you wanted American style Chinese dishes, they also have you covered.
My wife chose a dish she saw from a review on Google maps, beef noodles with gravy sauce. The portion size was larger than we expected it to be. The dish tasted great. The beef is very tender, and the gravy had a nice texture and complimented the beef, noodles, and veggies. I, on the other hand, picked my dish just by its name (I wish I could've seen a picture). Spicy beef tripe. The heat is fueled by Thai style green chili(they might not have been Thai Chile's but looked very similar).
The beef tripe was plentiful and took on the flavor of the broth/sauce, which is garlic forward with butter like flavor. The veggies were fresh and slightly tender. I would change nothing about the dish, not even the heat. To the average person, it may be really spicy as my wife couldn't eat much in fear it'll upset her stomach.
All in all, the food had great flavor, large portion sizes, and a very fair price. For our two meals with one drink, it was just under $25. We will for sure return to sample...

We ordered 3 eggrolls, 2 bowls of Hot and Sour Soup, Beef Flat Noodles (Dry), Orange Beef, Garlic Beef, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and Chicken Fried Rice.
The eggrolls were very tasty, though they were actually spring rolls, and the Soup tasted very authentic and good, with the added bonus of not having any pork in it (just made with chicken broth). The Beef Flat Noodles (Dry), which was what most people would call Chow Fun, was fantastic, especially when drizzled with the provided chili oil. The Orange Beef was also excellent, with a crunchy, not-too-heavy breading and a great balance of sweet, savory, and a little spicy (we ordered it Mild). The Garlic Beef was good, but too sweet, so we probably wouldn't order it again. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp was delicious and very generous (15-20 shrimp). Lastly, the Chicken Fried Rice was pretty typical, though not bad. The Noodles and Fried Rice were prepared with lots of bean sprouts, which I really like.
One of the best things about this place is the value. Although prices are about $0.50 more per item than listed on the website, we had a feast for about $60, which is a steal for Chinese food these days. It is also worth mentioning that the service started out a bit slow but got much better after waters and eggrolls were brought out. Additionally, the menu is relatively large, with both authentic and Americanized favorites, so there is something for everyone.
Overall, the combination of fabulous food, great prices, and generous portions mean we will definitely be back and would recommend this gem to other...
Read moreVery Disappointing! This is one restaurant that I wished I had never gone into. I may not like “authentic Chinese food” or this place is just plain bad, either way I didn’t like it. Let’s start with the hot and sour soup. It wasn’t fresh and almost had the consistency of chili. It was probably made several days ago and had been simmering since. Besides being thick it consisted primarily of small bits of some unidentified meat with a few mushrooms. It didn't look good and it didn't taste good. Not appetizing at all! In the restaurant’s pictures the roast duck looks delicious. I had hoped for hot crispy roast duck, instead I got a roast duck that had just came out of the refrigerator chopped up and served a little cooler than room temperature. It may be authentic though, because they do serve the head! The orange chicken was no better! The service was less than average....
