Okay store. Has alot of items but ALOT of items are either expired or worn out or not well maintain. The vegetables and drinks sometimes are warm and not kept cold so it CAN be a health hazard if it gets bad. But for real, ALOT of old stuff that needs to be thrown out like rotten fruits and vegetables. Alot of frozens are bad, especially some ice creams are so bad they are already melted before they were put in the fridge and taste old. Some frozen food like dumpling and buns are bad and some aren't even tag with price and put in bags which isn't going to sell without knowing what it is and when. Very narrow alley and you have to mind others by scooting over because of so much overstock (do people really buy that much for there to be overstocks? Been here for years and never seen many people). Hot Food isn't good, taste cheap and poorly made compare to your average asian hot food from a cheap place. Like the bahn mi aren't even close to other cheap bahn mi place, the hot foods aren't as good as your regular cheap hot food. Always flies flying around the food which is also bad and can get someone sick. Try Yang's restaurant just a block down the street, they are good for cheap if you buy them early (don't buy late or you get the old ones that are tough cus it is always better right when it is hot). Some seafood at Nam Hai are dead and rotting already. ALOT of frozen food like pork are so old that they taste like bad old frozen food your asian parents kept in the freezer for months. And alot of the raw food on the glass shelf are days and days old so I recommen get your raw meat somewhere else. I like that it has lots of items and varieties like my noodles and snacks so I am happy for that. Other than that it is an okay store cus it has alot of things but it really needs to be check and maintain for the health of others and alot of food are...
Read moreNam-Hai is my 2nd go to place got Ginger root in bulk, always affordable and in good condition. They do have other selections of Asian veggies that you can look over and get some quality out of but you do have to be selective. They have a wide variety of sauces and soup powders. I you are looking for some good Won-ton soup base like you get in some of the restaurants you can find it here. They have a rotating supply of Ramen noodle type products, including the authentic "chewy" potato flour based noodles that don't get soggy in soups. They do have good selection of Mushrooms and Fungi I don't like the fact it is not organized very well and it feels like the Noodles just get shoved off the truck into isle so it is hard to find the same thing what you have found a linking to, my best advise is take a pic of the package, the UPC on the package , a pick of the bulk box and its UPC and prepare for a hunt next time. - It is possible to find if it is there, just takes a bit of time.
A few cautions I have for shoppers, and this comes from me and a group of other friends that shop here: DO be hawk-eyed watching the prices and when at check out looking out for double ring-ups or items at different prices/wrong prices. If you are careful and stay observant the sale and experience will go okay, pay attention. I cannot say the place feels clean but it does remind me of a few Guangzhou / Canton street markets I've shopped in. Be careful buying rice , I've encountered bugs in it, even though it was thermally sealed, came over on the boat at packaging time (Asian Mart has good rice if looking for assorted variety and quantities. ) For things lacking at Asian Mart you can probably find it here - As I said this is my 2nd go to for items not carried...
Read moreI recently visited Nam-Hai Oriental Food Market, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Despite the store's promising exterior and seemingly extensive selection, several aspects of my visit left much to be desired.
First, the store's layout was cluttered and disorganized, making it difficult to navigate the aisles and find specific items. The lack of clear signage and crowded shelves added to the confusion and frustration. Additionally, many products seemed to be misplaced or not stocked properly, further complicating the shopping experience.
Cleanliness was another major issue. Several areas of the store appeared unkempt, with visible dirt and grime on the floors and shelves. Some of the refrigerated sections had unpleasant odors, and I even noticed a few expired products still on display. This lack of hygiene made me question the overall quality and safety of the food items being sold.
Customer service was also subpar. The staff seemed uninterested and unapproachable, offering little to no assistance when I asked for help finding specific items. Their lack of knowledge about the store's inventory and dismissive attitude were quite off-putting.
Parking was another hassle, with a small, overcrowded lot that made finding a space a challenge. The lack of designated spots for disabled or elderly customers was particularly concerning, as it showed a disregard for accessibility.
Overall, my visit to Nam-Hai Oriental Food Market was far from satisfactory. The disorganization, lack of cleanliness, poor customer service, and inadequate parking made for a very unpleasant shopping experience. I would not recommend this store to others and will likely not...
