We eat here often .... at least once a week ... and for birthdays and holidays as well. We usually get really good service here and the food is the best. Today was different and very disappointing. My husband and I were seated at a dirty table that no one bothered to wipe down even after we were seated. We ordered our food and it took a lot longer than usual. My husband's food came out first. He was halfway finished by the time my food came out. We both had simple orders ... cheese enchiladas ... mine with rice and beans and his with papitas. When my food was finally brought to the table it was wrong ... they were chicken enchiladas. The guy that brought my food ... not our server ... also refilled my husbands drink and when he returned I told him I ordered cheese enchiladas not chicken. He took my plate back to the kitchen. Some time went by and our server came to the table and I told her my order was wrong. She didn't care ... she only stated that SHE put in cheese enchiladas so 'this was on the kitchen not her' and she walked off but not in the direction of the kitchen. Meanwhile ... my husband finishes his meal and we have no drinks which was simply a tea and a water. Not difficult to refill. We were seated fairly close to the hostess desk and I kept trying to get our servers attention. Finally she saw me and a light bulb went off in head and she took off towards the kitchen. She returned with my food some time later .... again ... my husband already finished his meal. No apologies or anything. No drink refills. Just sat it down and left. It seems that management needs to reevaluate the training they provide their servers. The food also wasn't as good today as it usually is either. We were...
Read moreChimis on 15th and Peoria in the Cherry Street district must be under new management now and they're trying to cut corners. Usually when we come here, our enchilada dinners are very good. However, yesterday when we came in, we ordered our usual enchilada dinner with rice and beans.
We usually have to wait about 20 to 25 minutes before our food arrives. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes after we received our chips and salsa. I was shocked, and I asked the waitress why it was so fast and she said that they had some already made. (Wait! They had some already made??) I could have went to Taco Bell if I wanted that kind of service. I did not like that because I like my food cooked fresh and I don't mind waiting a long time for it to get done.
I tried to eat the dinner but couldn't. I had to send it back to be cooked fresh because the enchiladas were soggy and the rice and refried beans were dry. When they brought the new plate, it still came out the same way.
Then, I noticed that they're using a different type of tortilla. The kind that they usually use was handmade and was more firmer, brownish and yellow in color when cooked. However; the tortillas used in our meal yesterday was soggy and white.
Also, they are not using the same kind of rice which was seasoned and had a slight yellowish color. The rice they used with our meal yesterday was white and tasteless. I spent $55 there and it wasn't worth it.
I've been a customer coming to this restaurant for 40 years and I'll never be coming back to Chimis again. I don't recommend...
Read morefantastic quality food, and friendly service! I was impressed, as it has been several years since I had visited. It was nice to feel the warm welcome, back! The salsa was better than I had remembered. The authentic decor and knick knacks were fun to look at. My friend and I enjoyed the appetizer nachos, which were more than enough for two people, and they gave me a generous helping of meat ( in which I chose shredded beef and shredded chicken) for no extra charge, which I asked for on the side--as my friend does not eat meat. I have to add here, then I am very picky on my quality of meat. Chimi's quality of both meats did not disappoint. They were both moist, tender, probably slow-cooked or marinated, with no hint of gristle. I must say that if I get gristle in my meat in any restaurant, that ruins it for me! So that did not happen here :-) I had also asked for some Florentine sauce, for which they did not charge me extra. Each chip had a nice topping of melted cheese, with some creaminess underneath. My guess is that would have maybe been the Florentine, but it added a nice texture. Overall, a very good deal, as there was not one dry chip, more than enough topping on each! It helped us feel that we got our money's worth as well, as on top had been served a nice helping of both guacamole and sour cream. For around $10 before tax, it was an excellent deal. I even had some meat and chips that I could take home with me :-) free refills on chips and...
