I have eaten and recommended Freeway cafe for years. 3rd Street location used to be friendly, servers smiled, & held nice conversations with customers. Today was different. No smiles, servers & location mgr combative. None of them wanted to hear/know what our frustration was. It was a bad experience, while others noticed our demise. We arrived appropriately 11:45- 11:50 after doctor visits & minor surgery. Just in time for lunch. The drink server didn't smile & didn't clearly pay attention to what & how we wanted our beverages. Then my mom requested extra tomato on her salad, the waitress admitted to not hearing her when she made her original order. She also didn't smile nor was she friendly. After watching others around get service, finish & leave, I finally asked if it would be a bother for us to get our salad. Once we did get our food, we had been waiting close to 1 hour, simply because we were told during the order that the chicken would take 11-15 minutes ( my mom didn't mind). Time had passed when we received our food and had been frustrated by the wait. Before we left I was trying to speak with a server & she advised that I speak with her mgr. I immediately turned to speak & the mgr already had an attitude and advised that I hadn't waited an hour for our food. She said that the order was turned in at 12:40. Which was the time another server asked about our sides and said " Your ticket somehow got lost" she said that they are cooking the chicken. She left the establishment shortly after. I paid the ticket, no tip & suggested that we leave. The mgr followed me to tell me when I come back she won't serve me & I stated " Good, cause I won't be back here. This is the worst customer service I've experienced since this location opened". Another customer sitting close stated that he was sorry for the problem and that he watched it all. Bottom line is Customer service w/ an approach is key. The wait was entirely too long & made the Freeway Cafe on 3rd Street look bad. Thanks for the experience and I will tell others about my experience. May also call the health department for what I witnessed with beverages. The mgr was so ready to be combative that she didn't bother to give me the change. The bill was $35.78. I...
Read moreI had the fried green tomatos as a starter and was disappointed to discover that although it was after 11 am, the mashed potatoes were not ready so I was not able to order my original choice, the meat loaf meal (which I have had previously as take out and is heavenly) so I settled on the grilled pork chop breakfast instead. The breading and seasoning on the tomato slices were absolute perfection, as was the ranch dipping sauce. The tomato slices themselves were still a bit too green and firm to my taste, but were passable. My grilled pork chops were a bit tough and could have used a bit of marinade and much more seasoning but I compensated by mixing the catsup on the table with my cup of salsa I ordered to add flavoring. My scrambled eggs with cheese were a bit lacking in flavor as well but perked up nicely with the addition of some of the salsa. The hash browns were a bit too crispy on the outside and a bit too mushy on the inside and again required additional seasoning at the table. The biscuits and gravy were an unexpected and welcome surprise. The consistency of the gravy was absolutely perfect but again the gravy required a lot of additional seasoning at the table; I much prefer for the seasoning (particularly the pepper) to be cooked into the gravy for more of an overall flavor than to be added at the table. The biscuits themselves were a bit on the heavy side and a bit undercooked in the center but were large and fairly fluffy. The portions were HUGE; today is the day after we dined and I just enjoyed my second meal from the LEFTOVERS, so at $9.50, the price is actually a bargain and I highly recommend plate sharing for those with smaller appetites! (Although I am DEFINITELY not knocking the generous portions!) We were fairly disappointed in the lack of prompt attention on the part of the wait staff and would be interested in a return visit at a later time to determine whether it was simply due to a rush of customers in the late morning. We definitely feel that the prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food ordered (about $35 for two meals, two beverages and a shared starter) and will definitely plan a...
Read moreI had theworst experience here today. People sitting next to my husband and I found 3 hairs in their food. 3! The waitress took the fork they were stuck in the food on, showed the manager, who shrugged her shoulders and did nothing, then she took it to the kitchen to show the staff there. The manager didn't budge an inch. No apology, no replacement, no offer of a refund. Nothing. After talking with the waitress, who actually apologized for the incident AND the manager's behavior and told me she tried talking to the manager about it, but she just didn't care. At this point my husband and I got our ticket and went to pay for our meal. The cashier asked how our meal was, said she hoped we enjoyed everything. As I wasctalking to her, and explaining that it would have been better had I not just witnessed hair being pulled out of their food, the manager came from around the corner yelling at me. Like I'm not allowed my own opinion! That's disgusting. Who knows if that person's hair was clean, or if they had animals or whatever! As the manager was yelling at me I tried explaining that the health department has regulations about pulling hair back and hair nets usage to prevent that and she just started screaming louder. It was childish and disrespectful behavior. After seeing how that other family got treated, we won't ever go back. That was our favorite place to sneak off for our sneak away lunches by ourselves. But all that totally ruined it for us. To see one of their managers ruining the experience for so many people, is very sad. It used to be the best place to go to around this...
