Here, on the anniversary of Stonewall I thought Iād go and hang out at a local gay club.
This place is horrifying and depressing in the same initial gasp as you enter.
Firstly: itās a dingy, dirty, minuscule sized room with patio for smoking (which they ignore because they still smoke e-cigs inside). The bathrooms - simply disgusting. Thereās a reason thereās no lighting in there - havenāt been cleaned or serviced since the Stonewall riots. The aura is dread. The only way you can tell youāre not pissing on yourself is that thereās a 2-way mirror overlooking the pool table.
Next: The clientele - is this a menās bar for MEN? Thereās more straight women here than gay men. The men you ask? Pretentious, snobbish; and size queens. And when I say size queens I mean that not one of them is under a size 40 waist. I like to think maybe I chose a bad night - but as I stood there each and every patron that came through the door was larger than the last one! Itās either Queer Chubs night or a Gay Weight Watchers convention. I did see a guy in a cowboy hat (owner?) talking to another old guy in a smock acting queenier than ZaZa Napoli in La Cage Aux Folles. BTW, if you like them old - like hanging out in the waiting room of a nursing home old - you may like this place.
Is this the best menās gay bar you have to offer Tulsa? There isnāt even a decent house DJ?!?!? (Just some guy pushing the āPlayā button on pop videos that play on a 75ā screen.)
This is depressing. This is a shame. If youāve ever experienced The Eagle brand in any other city (Atlanta, LA, Ft. Lauderdale) then youāll quickly realize this place is not even remotely akin to those legendary clubs. Itās not even close. I seriously doubt if the owners of the Eagle brand even know this dive trap is using their branded identity.
To the owner of the Tulsa...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will say that certain days are more appealing than others like if you go on pride weekend oh honey, it's a party and a half. I was in college for a couple years and trying to look for any LGBTQ outlets so I would come to this bar frequently every other weekend. It damaged my self-esteem a lot like the staff there are a mixture of nice and cold. I think that's any gay bar though. I've been to quite a few gay bars Yes, there are people that will talk to you, but I get where some people say there's a lot of click-like vibes going on. Majority of the time I would go there and these groups of people wouldn't engage with you at all and you would be sitting there for hours alone and they wouldn't care... I know that some LGBTQ have this mentality If you're going to sit in the corner and not say anything to anybody that's your problem.... Like I've had some gay's say no one cares stop playing the victim. It's definitely harsh, especially if somebody has been ostracized for years and has social anxiety or whatever baggage. Yet to the bars defense there were nights where the right kind of people showed up and were nice and it felt like an ecstasy dream. It really just depends on the day, or time of year. It was definitely sketchy for awhile until they freshened up the bars look and gave a new look to the bar appearance inside and out. I even saw a car accident outside of the bar š oh memories. If you go, definitely go with friends or on specific event days. I went alone because I had nobody at college that was gay and would understand me during college. I would have probably gone more to a place like an LGBTQ help center, but I wasn't impressed with it. There wasn't much being offered other than information and resources with struggles not really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came in on June 21st, for the first time, and was greeted normally. It was roughly 1:40-2:00pm. There was a brunette guy, who was kind, and a light haired guy, who wasnāt. I asked the light haired guy about their selection and prices, and he answered unclearly, saying random numbers and said something about a shot being $5, a mixer (no clue what that is, but I assume itās a cocktail?) being $7, and said a double was $9, then $10. Then, when I asked what was $9, for clarification only, he said ādonāt worry, I know what you wantā without asking me what I even want or how much I wanted. I had my card in my hand, he took it, charged me, and then served me the most disgusting beverage Iāve ever been served. When I previously asked about selection, I just asked if they had uv vodka, which he said no, and then if they had Malibu rum, which he said yes. Usually bartenders let you order, and then give you THAT. I assume it was some sort of flavored Malibu or something? I only drink the original, and even then, I usually have it with another liquor or two. I would NEVER spend $10 on just a small cup of what looked like 2 ounces of a poorly flavored Malibu. Who would? I wanted to love this place, but that ābartenderā completely ruined it for me. Being essentially forced to pay a stupid amount for a disgusting drink is not cool at all. Go to The Bar for a better, cheaper drink, and slightly better service (plus, the owner will actually help if anything goes wrong). This place should just go out of business if they are hiring people like this, and then have a phone number that no one answers. Just close it down. Oh, also, they had filthy, everyday dive bar vibes, but with rainbow flags. The flags were the only...
