Family and I were visiting from out of town and saw this on Yelp with the name of Golden Saddle BBQ Steakhouse with 4 stars. Upon arriving, we noticed that the restaurant was located in what I would call a rough part of town and that the outside of the building was run down. In addition, the name on the sign was actually Golden Saddle Café (google had it under the correct name though). My wife’s first instinct was to go somewhere else, but we had 3 kids with us and it was getting late, so we took the plunge to try it out. Upon entering, the inside of the place matched the outside, looking pretty run down and decrepit. We were about the 3 or 4th group in there and ending up bringing down the average age of a patron about 30 years. In other words, there were older customers that likely had lost all their taste buds and were only there due to the texture of the food. Not a good sign.
Our waitress, who was very nice, tried to explain the menu to us as being a mix of Persian, bbq, steak, and breakfast fusion (I added the fusion part) food, which basically means it is just a mess of confusion as the menu was broken out on several different pieces of paper. Gordan Ramsey would have a field day with this place saying you need to figure your theme out and stick with it. And yes, if Kitchen Nightmares was still on, I would write in this restaurant as a potential site.
We decided to order the following – the Chicken kabobs, the pita sandwich, a hamburger and fries, an omelette and hashbrowns, and a sirloin steak. The chicken kabobs also came with some pita bread, yogurt sauce and humus, served as an appetizer before our main meal came. All perfectly bland and tasteless. At least it did not have an off-putting taste. Our main meals came and here are the responses to the food: (1) One of the worst steaks I have ever eaten, (2) The rice that came with the kabobs was so old and when chewed, turned into powder instantly, (3) the pita sandwich had one bite in it before my niece was like, I really am not that hungry, I’ll “save this for later”, and (4) the omelette came with an extra side of grease. Portions were large (the rice with kabobs was like a huge mountain on the plate), but overly so. I would rather the portions be smaller but higher quality, although the kabobs had a nice flavor to them. Unfortunately I kept thinking I hope this doesn’t make me deathly ill as I was eating it.
We all left feeling unsatisfied and hating Yelp wondering how 90 year old people manage to write reviews on there and google, giving it 3 stars or more....
Read moreWon't go back. Too over priced. Area is crawling with homeless people that looked dangerous. We went for breakfast. This restaurant is located in a very bad area of town and from the outside looks run down. Inside is ok. Appeared clean. We have heard good things so wanted to try it. The food came out fast(There was only two other tables seated at the time), and looked good. But upon closer inspection, I had a hair on the green onion that was on my plate(no idea why they serve an entire green onion) and that was gross, but I removed the green onion and moved on. It was just my husband and myself. We both ordered an entree and 1 waffle each. Plus 1 milk and 1 coffee. The tab was $60. We were charged $6.99 PER waffle. The menu had an S and said WAFFLES, so we assumed there were 2 per order. Nope. The entrees were $13.00 each. Another menu misprint because both meals were priced at $10.99. Didn't even bother arguing with the waitress on any of it. Even had the char from burnt waffle mix on our waffles. The couple of bites I took of mine were ok and my husband finished his. But it def was NOT worth the money for two of us....
Read moreYou get a lot of food for the price but the quality was poor. The fried chicken was over cooked (very tough and dry i still ate 2 pieces because i was hungry) and the potatoes were definitely a couple of days old and could tell they had been reheated a few times (lots of hard pieces). The gravy was reheated as well. We bought my dad a hamburger to go and we went straight home after dinner to give it to him. When he opened it the patty was hard burnt but cold and the bun was very stale, the lettuce was wilted and just a small piece, the tomato slice he got was the size of a half dollar. The server was great very fast and stayed consistent with checking on us. Usually the food is great but not this time. Fresh ingredients are key and I understand the re use of some things but I would only go one day on left overs tops! The portions are huge and that's great but I don't necessarily need a half of a chicken or 2 big fried pork chops (my husband got the chops and could only eat one) to fill me up, maybe there is a correlation here of how much food you get and re using...
