What an expensive, ridiculous debacle. Before we even get in the door, the smell of their grease traps hit us with this scent reminiscent of, well, if you’ve ever smelled over-full grease traps you know.
Then, with the vaguely fecal scent of rotten grease still in our nostrils, we are guided to our table by a man with his pants around his knees, so we have a visual now with our tour of the senses.
We sit. We wait.
Our server comes and gets the drink order for the three of us. We order some appetizers. There’s some confusion about what the waitress says to us when she confirms our order, and when we ask her to clarify she “blue screens” on us and gets frustrated, saying “I PUT IN WHAT YOU ASKED FOR.” Ok, yeesh. Sorry to bother you.
The apps come out. The spring rolls were good! The egg rolls were food-service standard, not made there, and not worth $2.50 apiece. We order our meal.
My 3 year old daughter’s meal comes out first to keep her busy! This is good! My bulgogi comes out, and it is soup. Drowning in sauce. “Served on a sizzling platter,” as the menu touts, it was not. My wife’s chicken teriyaki comes out. It is cold. It is also day-old meat. We tell our semi-hostile server that this is both cold and not fresh. She agrees to have it remade.
After 15 minutes of my daughter and I eating at my wife’s insistence, her food comes back out. It is hot, but it is NOT fresh. We’re upset. Wife asks for her meal to be comped because it took forever and still isn’t good. Waitress goes and talks to the manager, he agrees to comp her meal. However, they didn’t comp the lo-mein upcharge, they just put it on an eggroll line item.
No refills. Terrible service. Overpriced day-old slop. And if you mention any of it, the facade of a welcome you thought you had when they welcome you in vanishes like homeboy’s belt from the host stand.
I’m actually mad at MYSELF for not insisting...
Read moreOn our anniversary, we decided to come to Kirin for dinner, we later regretted the decision. It was our 2nd time eating there, the first time we went we enjoyed our experience trying couple rolls. This night, our waitress was distracted by her family who was eating there.. we ordered the Southwestern roll and asked for no spicy crab because of a shellfish allergy, and then when we got the roll WITH CRAB, she told us that she accidentally told the guy "no spicy Mayo"... The roll didn't even have spicy Mayo in it's ingredients to begin with.. So upon receiving the roll and telling her, I asked if I could still purchase it for a discount, and I would eat it since i didn't have the allergy and my fiance did.. she said "nah I'll eat it myself". Next, instead of telling the Sushi chef to make ours quickly to correct the mistake, the chef does about 3 other rolls/orders before starting our remake. We wanted the roll before our meals, but we got it a bit after our entrees had already gotten there. We noticed it did not taste anything like it did the last time we had it. I double checked the menu and saw that it was supposed to have siracha sauce and we didn't ask her to eliminate the siracha sauce. However, for some reason she went and told the chef that we didn't want siracha. This was the second time she messed our sushi order. She was so distracted by her family and took a long time to get our entree orders. She herself acknowledged that she messed up our order twice. It is a pretty expensive restaurant, so messing up our order in such a terrible way is not expected. We still left a tip. We were hoping Kirin could make this bad experience right some how. However they did not bother to reply to our message about this experience, and it has been months since then. Also, the lights above the table need a major cleaning. It was disgusting to have so much dust...
Read moreWent to Kirin a few weeks back. Service: 0/5. I won’t be going back simply due to this aspect. We chose to sat outside which was wonderful because it’s screened off. However… our waiter was not attentive at all. Service was slow & it wasn’t busy. Including us there were maybe 2-3 other tables. When we asked for the fruit sushi to go at the end of our meals, he appeared annoyed. We waited for the check and fruit sushi for around 15 minutes and went back in to see if he had our check ready. He went to the front desk & began talking to gentlemen there. After 5 minutes, we walked over to him & they immediately stopped talking. When my sister went to the restroom, they walked away, looked in our direction and started laughing. Very unpleasant & the service alone left a bad taste in mouth. Food: The food looked great, however… it lacked a lot of flavor. We started off with the Spicy Wontons in Chili Sauce. The chili sauce was not spicy at all. The Wontons were okay but they weren’t very warm on the inside. Tasted frozen. 2/5 My sister ordered a Dancing Roll for us to share & it was decent. Nothing stood out about it but it had a good flavor. 2.5/5 My sister ordered the Steam Buns with Egg Drop Soup. The egg drop soup came out quickly, however, the steam buns arrived towards the very end. When we opened up the basket, no steam came out. We tried them and they were extremely dry and bland, with the essence of cardboard. 1/5 I ordered the Spicy Chicken Bulgogi & it was savory - the best dish that we ordered. 3.5/5 The Lo Mein left a lot to be desired. 1.5/5
Overall, I wouldn’t choose to go back to this restaurant. I really wanted to like it, but I feel as if there are better places in Tulsa if you’re looking for Asian fusion...
