My family was coming to town, gathering together for a special occasion and had decided to stay all at the same hotel if possible. We each made our own reservations and as such when my particular part of the family was making our reservations we were concerned about how to designate that we wanted to have ajoining rooms, so we called to ask what to do. A friendly person told us to just call back after the reservations were made and she would make a note in the system that the two reservations were to be booked in ajoining rooms. So we did this.
The day we were to arrive we got a call early in the morning while we were on the road headed there, to tell us that the hotel did not have ajoining rooms. I had to clarify and ask if she meant they did not physically have them or they did not have any available for us. I was told they did not physically have any. At this time it was too late to do anything so we just accepted this information.
When we arrived at the hotel we mentioned it to the front desk person that was giving us our keys and she was surprised to hear this and said as far as she knew they did have them but maybe due to remodeling they were not available (this is when we found out the hotel was under remodel). We also notice a sign that the due to remodel the pool was closed. and we could see other areas closed off by paint tarps. Again we were given the impression that there as no ajoining rooms and nothing could be done, so we accepted our keys and headed up to our rooms.
When we got to our rooms we discovered that one of the rooms was indeed part of a set of ajoining rooms. So my sister went down to ask about this and was told that "oh the doors dont work". When she told me that was told this I showed her that I had already found the door to be working while she was speaking to the front desk. so I went back down to ask about this more and to ask if my sister and mother could be moved into the room that did indeed join mine but then I was told that the room next to us had been book for the week and when I mentioned that we had made our reservations a month ago and had followed instructions given to us to insure we would have ajoining rooms I basically got the sorry shrug and no offer to try to sort this out with different rooms or anything.
Then all the little things started adding up (and I know these may sound petty or overly picky but the hotel is being paid to provide high quality service and amenities so these things added to our dissappointment with the stay.)
one of the beds in my room was not mounted on the frame properly and had to metal bar sticking out a good 4" - 5" right at shin height. I have provided pictures if they upload properly (fortunately it was noticed before running into it and injury was avoided)
the tv remote would not control the tv, you had to us the awkwardly placed button on the bottom edge of the tv to turn it on and try to toggle to the control selection for volume and such
the desk was not a desk it was a roll around cart and had no outlets of its own to allow for a laptop to be plugged in and the nearest plug strip was already full with the direct tv receiver, tv, and lamp.
the desk chair tips so easily that the first time I used it I almost fell over backwards and there did not seem to be anyway to lock it so that it did not tip so each time I had to be careful not to lean back too much, because I was certain I would tip over backwards
the wifi did not work on the 5th floor (we asked other relatives on the same floor)
the coffee maker was missing in one of the two rooms were were occupying
the ice machines did not work and you had to go to the front desk to get ice
there was no shampoo in the rooms just conditioner - we ha to ask the front desk for it.
the towel shelf/bar is already coming loose from the wall even though it seemed this floor had already been remodeled
the laminating on the dresser was already peeling of the foot board.
My room was designated a handicapped room and you could see evidence of this by the number of extra grab bars mount in the tub and the spacing around the room and the bathroom that would allow for a wheel chair to get around. But for the life of me I do not see how an person in a wheel chair could even get into the beds. I am only 5'4" and I had to leap into them they are so high off the ground. My sister who is 5'8" still had to jump up to be able to get into the beds. they are mounted on a platform, then a very thick box springs, and then a very very thick mattress. The bed it self was comfortable once you got in it and if you did not have to get up and down a lot.
I also was not pleased about how the problem with my one bed was handled. I brought it to the attention the front desk and then specifically told her that I did not want them to deal with it while I was still there and that I was just telling them so they could fix it before the next person was booked in the room. But instead while were were out to eat and even though the do not disturb sign was hanging on the door, they still went into the room to fix it and apparently then had house keeping do some of the cleaning. I was not happy about this at all because I left my things scattered out and draped on the bed that they worked on because I thought they would not be disturbed on the un-used bed
I later found out that this hotel has been constantly getting bad review for issues during this remodel process that has apparently been going on since before Christmas and some of the issues are still issues that have not been resolved.
Oh and one more thing if you do decided to stay here maybe giving them the benefit of the doubt or maybe even considering that all these complaints are excessive. Just know that the drive way is not marked with a sign for this hotel it is marked with a sign for the a sister hotel that is on the same parking lot. So it is easy to miss where you are to turn to get to the...
Read moreHad a two night stay at this location for an event in Tulsa. I arrived on a Friday afternoon, was promptly checked-in and everything seemed on par. I got to my room, a spacious double and everything was as to be expected. I had to quickly iron a shirt and get on the road for a quick meeting, so I flipped on the TV and began to iron. I noticed only 4-5 buttons worked on the remote and the cable box kept shutting off after a few minutes of being on. The volume or channel buttons didn’t work so had to watch anything on with the channel numbers 2, 5, 6, and 8. A minor inconvenience and not a deal breaker, when I left for me meeting, I informed the employee at the front desk and he said he’ll have someone check it out for me.
I arrived at my room late that night ready for bed, the TV remote had not been touched and still not working. Again, not a deal breaker and I went straight to bed. The next morning, I woke up, put on something I could find with limited buttons and headed to take a shower. I could not figure out the shower for the life of me, so I packed my bags and headed down to the lobby requesting a room change. The front desk attendant showed me a diagram on how to get the shower engaged and informed me it happens every day. I suggested that diagram be placed in each room if that was the case as it sounds like most people are unable to figure that out on their own. He had me wait for a maintenance tech to check out the TV. The maintenance tech and I headed back towards my room and I watched as the poor man struggled with my TV for 15 minutes having the same issues I had without a solution. He informed me it’s not even the brand of TV they have in every other room in the hotel. The maintenance guy had me go back to the lobby and request I get a change of room. In total, 90 minutes had passed since the time I wanted to take a shower and start my day, so this was frustrating for me. I didn’t understand why I had to sit in my room with a struggling maintenance tech to reassure I wasn’t lying or cheating the system. The front desk associate switched me to a different room on the same floor, apologized for the inconvenience and gave me a breakfast voucher. He upgraded me to a spacious King suite with living area and private bedroom and working TV. It was a great gesture and things seemed much better.
I went out for the day and headed back to my room to clean and up and prepare for the event I was in town for. One of the elevators was being worked on so only one was in working order. When I arrived at my room, my key didn’t work. I went back to the lobby and nobody was behind the front desk. I sat there waiting for someone for 10 minutes before a guy came out of the office with food in his mouth. He reset my key and I headed back upstairs. I got to my room and my key still did not work. I went back to the lobby and nobody was behind the front desk yet again! This time, I waited for 15 minutes. I called the Holiday Inn number, knocked on the door, tried to figure out how to reset my key myself and nobody showed up. At this point, I was running late to my event and getting frustrated. Finally, he came around the corner and reset my key again. I said nothing is happening when my key is put inside the lock. He called the maintenance guy from the elevator to check it out and the maintenance guy had to go up and down the elevator more than once to figure out a solution. After another 15 minutes he finally got inside my room. I ended up being 40 minutes late to my event. I reiterate, the main reason for my stay was for that event.
I checked out early the next morning and got out without looking back. Keep your free breakfast. I do not recommend this hotel. The front desk was vacant while the sun was still shining between 6-7pm for no apparent reason. There is no sense of urgency here and previous reviews say the same. Book...
Read moreAlthough we had reservations, the hotel was completely booked upon arrival, so we were not provided a room with 2 double queens as requested. We requested this because we were traveling with our teenager (this was disappointing but understandable under the circumstances).
There was a sign at the front desk indicating that in order to receive breakfast we had to purchase tickets ahead of time. This may not bother some guests but it came across to me as a convenience for the hotel, rather than a benefit for guests. I would have preferred complimentary coffee service as opposed to tickets to a "heat and serve" two star buffet.
There was another sign at the desk asking for reservations for the pool due to COVID. Understandable. However, none of the staff was wearing masks, at all (even though there were signs all over the hotel requiring mask wearing). The message to me was hotel manager was following their own COVID guidelines which were unclear to guests.
All of this would have been acceptable to my family (under the circumstances of COVID and being booked), until we got into our room. It was incredibly beat up. Walls had marks and dirt and holes, lamp shades were dirty and old. The sofa sleeper that the manager told us we could use for our teenager was stained all over, sunken cushions, dirt inside of it, not even clean enough to sit upon. The carpet had large red stains throughout the room. The coffee table had a broken leg, if you touched it it fell off. The dressers all had scratches. The phone in the room was an old eyesore with dust and fingerprints all over it. The mirror door on the closet was broken. There was an iron but not ironing board. There was not a luggage rack, nor typical hotel amenities. There was shampoo and soap. The room had been cleaned and I would not fault a cleaning crew at all, the room was so damaged it would impossible to polish it to an acceptable standard. In addition, the room had very dim lightbulbs, I felt like this was intentional.
The second night we requested to move to a different room and it was certainly better, but still showed signs of a much needed renovation.
The final issue we encountered was the second day I asked the manager on duty if our family could swim, as there were much fewer guests. She told us anytime before 7pm because they were adding chemicals to the pool at that time. We went to the pool at 6:30 that evening for a quick swim and one of the employees ran into the pool area and told us to get out because they had just put chemicals in the pool. No signs posted and sooner what they told us that day.
I was very disappointed in the overall quality of the hotel and the management and will likely choose a different hotel chain...
